Bandai 1/144th Millennium Falcon from SW, TFA

Picture update time...

I have started on the lighter of the grey accent panels, most will be on the upper hull half, so I work in a section then let it dry, then move on.
Front aspect, In this image you can see several finished panels, and several unfinished panels...


Upper hull Starboard aspect.


And upper hull port 3/4. on the left circled in red you can see a finished panel, vs on the right circled in blue the unfinished panels.


Under side of the mandibles are only large grey panels on the underside.


The lower hull half starboard side aspect.


And the underside of the deployed boarding ramp.


This is the part that I made my mistake on, the yellow was one panel too close to the end, so I painted over it, and repainted it in the correct location.

I really must get round to doing my Falcon at some point, what are you using for reference on this? Just the Instructions?

...and yes, those Archive X are a tad expensive!

The instructions mainly, and I've rewatched TFA a couple times, to my wifes dismay.

Looking at your work makes me admit that I'm not used to painting because I do so much digitally. This was the reason why I chose not to get the big Falcon (yet). Just imagine you have the finest model ever and then you ruin it with a bad paint job. I'm holding on to the mpc which should be a good starter kit for me to practice.

All of the accent panels are just the lead up to weathering. It's the weathering that, on Star Wars ships at least, brings them to life.

I second that @Revell-Fan, although I have yet to 'do digital' - I have the DeAgostini and a Fine Molds version - These Bandai and even the Revell versions are good cheap alternatives to act as mule, before you take your thoroughbred to the races... There's even a huge Hasbro toy version I've seen modelers trying their hand at painting before going to the Perfect Grade and others...
I remember my brother buying the MPC version, released by Airfix here in the UK - Dale made many of his kits, but he never got round to the Falcon.

Yeah, that one is a great base but the material is tough to work with because it is very paint and glue resistant. A good primer is imperative.

The latest Revell Falcon is a repop of the Fine Molds mold, so it should be as good as the Original Fine Molds. My dream kit is still the ANH Bandai Perfect Grade.

You can do it like me, get a desired kit and put it in the cupboard. Then you can say, you have it. Of course, it is still in pieces, but well, you have it.

I think we all have those stashes of unbuilt kits, but these paper models are so much easier to store... I think I need to sell on all that plastic!

Sorry for the delay in updates, I'm finally seeing my doctor again, and back on my meds, and the nerve blockers are killing my coordination till I get used to them again.

A short little update, I got the plugs in to have a removable connection between the model and the stand, little JST 1.25mm micro plugs


But if you look... the red and black are crossed..... on all 30 pairs.... Grrrrr

So I swapped the pins on the female I'm gonna mount to the Falcon


I did a ;little file work and squared up the hole I drilled...


and the female JST fits in the squareish hole now.


Now to get the plug glued in place...
I think I'm gonna use UV cure resin for this.
