Thank you sir!Base coat with a dark brown, then apply a thin coat of white glue and sprinkle on "Coarse Sand" terrain sand. AKA Play sand. Then when the glue dries, tap the excess off. Apply paint to darken the "Coarse sand" , and apply thin white glue. sprinkle on "Fine Sand" terrain sand, usually found in model train dept. repeat the pat off of excesss, and drybrush a lighter color. I'll try to remember to take lots of photos, but here is the same thing done to the flight base that came with the kit.

I added some darker patches, and "rocks" using train "ballast". The "Dust cloud" effect is just pulled out Polyfill, painted the colors of the sand.
That will work too. Where I'm at, up here in NW Georgia, I have two choices, red clay or granite.I have several tons (really, it is for our garden plot) buried under snow now. I’ll retrieve a can full and screen it to get the different sizes.
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that you are able to find a new (and more long term) place soon.Thank you all, but remember, this is not done yet, not by a long shot.
I may have to put the project on hold soon, as we have been given 60 days to find a new residence. We have been on a "Month to month" lease since Oct of 2022 when the ownership and management of the house we rent changed. We have a lead on a new place, but nothing firm yet. So it may get messy.
