A great step for man and dragon...

Dan

Mega-fantastic, man! You needed this great victory after losing a small battle. I'm sure after building such a nice base/stand/diorama, you'll be able to retake your work on the dragon and succeed.
The best thing is, and I think I've already written this before, you'll be twice as more careful, and we'll be four times as more amazed by your work of art!
Go for it, Dan!

Thanks Rogerio.

I started preparing all the replacement parts for the repair, last night.
So, hopefully soon, I will be back on track.

I am DEFINATELY NOT giving up after I have come this far.....

As an old phrase comes to mind...
"Don't meddel in the affairs of Dragons, for you are crunchy, and taste good with catsup."

Dragons do make hard masters to please...

I'm tired of being a dragon,
Ferocious and brimming with flame,
The cause of unspeakable terror
When anyone mentions my name.
I'm bored with my bad reputation
For being a miserable brute,
And being routinely expected.
To brazenly pillage and loot.

I wish that I weren't repulsive,
Despicable, ruthless and fierce,
With talons designed to dismember
And fangs finely fashioned to pierce.
I've lost my desire for doing
The deeds any dragon should do,
But since I can't alter my nature,
I guess I'll just terrify you.

Poems and fables

Wonderful poem. That reminds me of the fable about the scorpion and the frog. The scorpion couldn't help its own nature...

Leg it !!!

I made a decision over the build order. As it turns out, the disaster with the body and wing attachment earlier, may be a small blessing in disguise.

The whole armature structure will be attached to the base, as a self supporting structure inside the model. This means that very little structural stress will be enforced on the model itself. So with this in mind, I thought it might be wise to ensure a good structural integrity of the lower section of the armature, (legs/tail/rock), before attaching the upper half, (body/head/wings.)

So, back to where I left off, with the first disaster of this project, the legs. Albeit, this time, being a lot more careful when bending the wire armature into shape as I build......

I started with the right foot this time.....

032.jpg

Like before, I inserted the armature through the foot and filled the ankle with foam. I checked and double checked the angle of the bend where the armature exits the foot and enters the rock, to make sure that everything lines up as it should.

035.jpg

Once this had cured, I built up the lower leg/calf section up to the next joint and again filled this with foam.

043.jpg

And the same again for the upper section of the leg....

064.jpg

Once everything had cured, I test fitted the foot in place to make sure all was well......

065.jpg

And you can see, from inside the rock, why the bend is important to get right, so that the leg of the armature stays vertical.

069.jpg

In this shot you can just see the armature between the foot and rock. This will be later coloured black and it should become relatively invisible.

I have a lot of colouring and touch-ups to do which I'll do later, but, so far, so good. Now on to the left leg.

Time!

Thanks for the encouragment, guys...

Time

Ticking away the moments
That make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours
In an off-hand way

And then the one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

On an even footing.

Just a small update.

The second leg is complete, at last.

I have nearly finished repairing the damage to the wing and body and I hope to get that put back together soon.
