Detailed Thunder Fighter Project

BL**DY FANTASTIC RB !!!!!!!

I love the detail in that baby. The engines look superb!

Excellent precise work on the canopy slide rails.

WELL DONE!!

Thank you for the compliments.

With the detailed parts, I opened the parts sheets in MS PAINT and isolated the parts that I wanted to use for detailing and copied them to a new sheet and then built accordingly.

As for the canopy, I have to admit that the slide system was an after thought, after the plane was 90% finished. If I would have planned to make the canopy slide much earlier in the build, I would have (more then likely) done things differently.

:thumb: Efficient and true to the real thing! :thumb:
(Is there a bigger "Thumbs-Up" Smily available?)

As soon as I am finished with the Ford F-15 beta build and the Raptor build, I will build another TF (with the same level of detail, of course)

Although I am not certain which one I should do next .
Do any of you have a suggestions of what TF you would like to see built next (Yes, eventually I will rebuild the entire squadron of course)?

You go on holiday and wonder what's happened while you've been away.

Utterly fantastic RB

It should now be a legal requirement that all Thunderfighters must be detailed

Thank you for the compliment. As stated before, I will be remaking my entire squadron with this level of detail.

I also have a few ideas for a few repaints that I am playing around with in my head right now.

RB, those canopies are amazing!

You now have a few options for your build once you get to that point.

I do have to say that when I was thinking of starting this detailed project, I had people like you in mind.
Not only am I rebuilding my entire squadron for my own enjoyment, but I am also doing this for everyone (including you) who are building (or are planning to build) these MAGNIFICENT planes.
So if there is a technique that i have used that you (or anyone else) is interested in using to modify your build, by all means go ahead and do so. The only thing that I ask is that you post photos of your build.

I look forward to seeing how your project turns out (as well as seeing other people out there build a TF or two).

I love all the detail. It can be a chore but man does it literally make a model pop. I will also have to remember that slide setup as it is really ingenious.

I hate to admit I don't know what these ships are from but I love the design.

These Fighters (actually only a couple) are from the old 1978 Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Starring Gil Gerard and Erin Gray.

You can find these model here:
http://www.paperaviation.de/index.html (look under SCI-FI).

If you decide to build one (or two, or more) and you need help or advice, please feel free to PM me and I will do what I can to help you out.

EEK! 1979!!! (1978 was BSG!)

Ahem, but Buck was in pre-production in 1978, so... well... leave it! :p

Quad Thunder Fighter (Blue Paint scheme)

Hello Ladies and gentlemen, I am back to this project again.
This time I am building the QUAD Thunder Fighter (Blue paint scheme).
I have started with the cockpit. As you can see, I have recessed the screens, and raised the buttons and panels.

My understanding is that Ralph McQuarrie originally submitted the Thunder Fighter to ABC for BSG but the design was dismissed for the iconic Viper aircraft.

You are correct, the Thunder Fighter was originally designed for BSG.
I have made two different TFs with both new and old BSG paint schemes (The old paint scheme was made as a tribute to my mother. Here is the thread: http://www.zealot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=168988)

BTW, the Ralph McQuarrie Concept Viper will be part of the next Thunderfighter add-on package we are making. The CG model is set, I only have to adapt the texture and unfold the new parts.

Update

Here is an update of my progress.
I have started on the main body.
Here are the body halves.

As you can see, I have raised a few of the panels and detailed texture of the engine section.
