Great. It will add something new and original. Eventhou I did not do this myself I like it a lot on models of others. On my X-wing build I did wings in permanent open atack position, because I knew I would never move with them anyway if I made them mooveable :), so it would be wasted effort and time to make them mooveable.

This removeable hatch can be perfect for maintenance diorama.

It seems, based on a picture resolution, I have the same picture.

Maybee this book can help, there are chapters on tie-advanced, but I do not own it.

I had the X-Wing book like that, made to look like a Haynes service Manual. Lost it when I lost my house in Mississippi.

Once built, you could round that Sphere with a Round edged tool, or a Ball Bearing on a shaft tool, forgot what it's called. ;)

Here are some drawings of the outer wing.
Again this will be a layerd wing.

Then the "solar base panel". You have to cut these out and glue them on the "second base panel"
