'The
Betty was a very dated ship by
2381, having been constructed in the 2100s. It was originally stolen from orbit by
Elgyn and his crew in
2374, at which time the vessel was known as the
Almayer's Folly. Elgyn subsequently renamed the vessel the
Betty after his mother, French prostitute Beatrice Martin.
[2] Owing to the ship's advanced age, it required constant repair and maintenance. At one point
Ripley 8 commented that the
Betty "is older than [she was]", presumably referring to both herself and the original
Ellen Ripley, who had died 200 years before.'
"
This piece of shit is even older than I am."―
Ripley 8 (from
Alien Resurrection)
This is my first foray into larger, more complex card kits of this type - overall, an awesome display piece with plenty of great detail. The instructions are clear enough to follow and if you make use of reference pics the model comes together nicely. I made a cpl adjustments, first to the stand top, where it connects to the ship - its a bit tail heavy which i only realised once too far along, so if you do this kit i recommend a little weight in the nose - to remedy i simply made a more forward angled top for the Betty to sit on which seemed to solve the issue. The other thing i did was a few paint touch ups and details (namely the red lights on the thrusters) and used markers for edging. I omitted a cpl tiny details (engine nozzles on the rear hull) as my hands were not great to do these bits but i may add them in the future For me, im very happy with the finished article - its a great kit that i would recommend for those of probably intermediate skill and up.
