 so after much deliberation i decided on my first cpl kits, with help from some of the awesome guys on here. First up will be a 1:144 'Betty' from Alien 4, which ive made a start on, next will be (hopefully) the amazing millennium falcon kit thanks to everyones help here.
So heres the first bit - all printed on A4 cardstock (between 220gsm and 300gsm) cut out with either a sharp blade or scissors and edged with markers. Thus far ive got the stand done, and am currently working on the cockpit section - ill post more to this thread as it comes along.
I apologise in advance if there are gaps in my posting, ive been ill for 30+ years and sometimes my health kicks my arse.
Az

Very nice! The Betty is a great-looking ship. Do not worry about irregular postings. The hobby supposed to make fun and is no race. :)

...and take your time, there's no race here

Apologies for the delay in updates, this weather is kicking my arse lol.....As you can see made some good progress on the forward hull and cockpit, i must say, this one is going to be a big one lol - ive done my best to keep detail, greeblies and marking the edges etc where possible - ive plenty of spares from reprints so i may add some extra panelling here and there but see how things go. Next up are the thrusters and rear hull, so more to come. Dont mind my junkyard work space lol.

An ugly beauty... the designer of this kit really has captured the 'grit' of Scott's dirty industrial universe.

really does look a treat - I think you've done a cracking job so far.

The heat does really knock the wind from your sails when it comes to modelling, I know - I have only just retuned to my 'junkyard' of a workbench, yours on the other hand looks very tidy

its a fantastic kit, very detailed and pretty big, and i agree its been captured very well. It wouldnt take much to really detail up this kit if you wanted to. and as for my workstation lol you should see the rest of it

so another update on the betty.....about 60% done now on the main body, still plenty to do yet. Its going to be a big model once its all done, more than i thought lol but i must say its a great build, if you use reference pics as well youll end up with a pretty close final product. As a bit of a break i whipped up one of the awesome Astro Racers kits just to clear the brain fog, so enjoy lol20230911_172938.jpg20230912_211910.jpg20230914_155429.jpg20230914_155443.jpg20230914_155646.jpg20230914_155213.jpg20230914_155226.jpg20230914_155242.jpg20230914_155250.jpg

380831567_3398884060363312_1237605107887011041.png 'The Betty was a very dated ship by 2381, having been constructed in the 2100s. It was originally stolen from orbit by Elgyn and his crew in 2374, at which time the vessel was known as the Almayer's Folly. Elgyn subsequently renamed the vessel the Betty after his mother, French prostitute Beatrice Martin.[2] Owing to the ship's advanced age, it required constant repair and maintenance. At one point Ripley 8 commented that the Betty "is older than [she was]", presumably referring to both herself and the original Ellen Ripley, who had died 200 years before.'
"This piece of shit is even older than I am."―Ripley 8 (from Alien Resurrection)

This is my first foray into larger, more complex card kits of this type - overall, an awesome display piece with plenty of great detail. The instructions are clear enough to follow and if you make use of reference pics the model comes together nicely. I made a cpl adjustments, first to the stand top, where it connects to the ship - its a bit tail heavy which i only realised once too far along, so if you do this kit i recommend a little weight in the nose - to remedy i simply made a more forward angled top for the Betty to sit on which seemed to solve the issue. The other thing i did was a few paint touch ups and details (namely the red lights on the thrusters) and used markers for edging. I omitted a cpl tiny details (engine nozzles on the rear hull) as my hands were not great to do these bits but i may add them in the future For me, im very happy with the finished article - its a great kit that i would recommend for those of probably intermediate skill and up.
