After the delay, here's what I'm doing for the case 
Thankfully most of the glass was saved from the old one, except one piece. To save on the expense I decided to go with a piece of hardboard (7mm). Now to just have a piece of boring wood would not do I went for this (HMS Prince in the background)
The board and text are from the first build as well, the paper is genuinely approx 30 years old, lovely natural aged look with no added effects

The Oars were white, it made them easier to find in the dark water. The ship looks fantastic!!
