Battlestar Galactica Launch stall

GREETING ladies and gentlemen (boys and girls and all other assorted creature, both human and not). It is time for another fun filled beta test build thread.
As many of you many know, @Revell-Fan has been working feverously on the Viper project (as well as various hangar elements, to include the launch rail) on the "LAUNCH WHEN READY" thread. So, I am building the Battlestar Galactica Launch stall diorama. This diorama will incorporate the launch rail that @Revell-Fan previously designed and I built.

So, I started with the wall that is the launch tube entrance. Here are the parts for the wall.


I decided to laminate the main wall face to the thickness of the entire wall.


These are the outside edge pieces of the wall.


I removed the tabs of the outside edge pieces and put them in place.




These are the recess components.


These are the inside edge pieces.


Both the inside edge pieces and recess pieces are in place.


The wall is finished.

Moving on to the side wall. With the side wall, if you are wanting to say with a particular theme based on what episode you are wanting to recreate, (i.e. "Saga of a Star World", "Lost Planet of the Gods", " The Long Patrol", or the rest of the series) you will want to take into consideration which version of the wall you want to build (I am staying with "Saga of a Star World" theme, like I did with the launch rail.).

Here are the parts for the wall.


I laminated the main wall parts to the proper thickness (so that it is a solid piece).




Here are all of the edging pieces.


All of the edging pieces are in place.




Here are the greebles and accessories for the wall (i.e. the conduits, lights, Klaxon, fire extinguisher, axe, and first aid kit).


The lights, Klaxon, fire extinguisher, axe, and first aid kit are attached.


Now adding the conduits.




The "front" side of the wall is complete.


Here are the conduits and lights for the other side.


The conduits and lights are attached.


Now onto the lift assembly.

Here is the crew lift assembly.

In order to mount the lift frame assembly, I had to remove the conduit that is on the backside of the wall, next to the lift entrance, and placed a wall mounting strip.


Here is the lift frame.


The lift frame is dry fitted in place.


I "block" laminated the lift guide rails to the final thickness that is needed (so that the lift can be manipulated without the worry of stress or damage).


Here is the lift car handle. I "block" laminated it as well.


The lift car handle is fitted on the lift guide rails.




The lift car is assembled. The lift car handle is solidly attached to the car so that the stress of movement is (mostly) absorbed by the guide rails and handle.


The handle is (again) fitted on the guide rails.


The guide rails are attached in place.




The lift assembly attached to the wall.


The car moves freely.



This wall is now finished. Next will be the back wall.

I remember watching the scene where they are riding the lift down, and thinking to myself that it must be mounted to a forklift, because of the way it bounced around as it lowered.

are you going to make a forklift to attach to the lift from behind the wall?

It is funny that you mention this. Both @Revell-Fan and I discussed this in great length. However, we did come to a mutual conclusion. If the builder wishes to add a forklift to the diorama (especially as a gag), that they can go to CREATIVE PART (the CANON papercraft site) to download the forklift and scale it to match their diorama and add it accordingly.

That comment made my day!!! As RB already mentioned, since this project started I have been mocking him with that forklift! I even wanted to add it to the kit. However, this would ruin the illusion of a real working lift (and would mean more work for me ), so there won't be one.

It is time for another update. This time, I am working on the back wall (wall 3).

Here are the parts for the back wall (wall 3). As you can see, there are a couple of options (which I will address).


Starting with the top part of the wall.


The sides are attached.


The top piece is assembled.




Here is the rolling (garage) door. You have two options; close (down) or open (up).
The open door option will allow you to have various items coming into the stall (if you wish).


I have chosen the closed (down) option.


Here is the side of the wall (that holds the sides of the door).


Both sides are assembled.


Here are to completed main components for the back wall.


When assembling the main components of the wall, be mindful of the mounting spots for the lights. They all face into the stall. Not only that, but the ones that are on the side components are close to the door.


Here are the strips for the door trim.


The door trim strips are attached (on both front and back.

Now moving on to the conduit pipes and lights.

Here are the parts for the conduit pipes.


The pipes are in place.


The buckles for the pipes are in place.




Here is a full view of the back wall with the conduit pipes.


Here are the parts for the lights. You have two options. You can either use the same type of lights that were used on the side wall (the top set) or you can use the lights that look like cones (the bottom set, which are screen accurate).


I have chosen the cone style lights (which are assembled).


Here is a view of the inside of one of the lights.


When attaching the lights, make certain that they are facing at a downward angle.


The back wall (wall 3) is now finished.


Next up is the floor.

The open door option will allow you to have various items coming into the stall (if you wish).

So, as promised, I have completed the components for the floor.

Here are the parts for the floor.


The two halves of the floor have been joined and adhered to foam-baord.


Here are the parts for component that go on the square with the "A" on the floor.


Here is the assembly of the different parts for the floor piece.
(There are parts included with the template to greeble this out.)






















The floor piece "A" is fully assembled.






I noticed that the launch rail that I originally built was a bit too short (my mistake) for the stall as a whole. So, I have decided that I will rebuild it and post photos of the rebuild.
Once I have rebuilt the launch rail, I will assemble the stall as a whole.

As I had mentioned earlier, the launch rail that I originally built was a bit too short (my mistake) for the stall as a whole. I am now working on the launch rail itself. Not only that, but I am correcting a few other (albeit minor) issues as well.

Here are the parts for the main body of the rail.


The rail base is assembled.


As recommended, I added 1mm cardstock to the inside of the walls (for added strength and rigidity).
