This guy is developing a free Pepakura alternative that works on all platforms:
https://papercraft-maker.com
https://papercraft-maker.com
Actually the site is designed as a Single Page Application which only need to be loaded once. So even if the server crashes or your connection is down, as long as you do not refresh the page you are good to goTrue, but you need a constant internet connection. When the connection is down for some reason you can't continue your work. Or even worse: You are about to complete your project and then, all of a sudden, the server crashes. Several hours of work are gone.
This will definitely be implemented in the future! That's very true, it would be nice if there was an online pick up where you left off feature
This is exactly my thinking. To develop and maintain multiple versions for each OS will take much more time and effort which I am currently not have. But I am planning offline versions in the not-too-far future! And I think I know why the maker did not provide an installer yet: The web solution is available to all users, no matter which OS they are using. As long as you have a functional web browser you are fine. One of the major drawbacks of Pepakura is that it is only available for Windows. Mac users are disadvantaged. And updates can be implemented on-the-fly and are usable for everyone at the same time.
@zathros Firstly, thanks for welcoming me!
This is not the first time someone has asked about my intention with PaperMaker. So please allow me to state my final goals with this project:
PaperMaker will always be free. There will be no paid feature, no restriction.
I do hope to build a bigger ecosystem with PaperMaker as the foundation, and making benefit through other means while keeping PaperMaker free for everybody.
Hope that was clear enough, and nothing is against the forum rules![]()
