True, but you need a constant internet connection. When the connection is down for some reason you can't continue your work. Or even worse: You are about to complete your project and then, all of a sudden, the server crashes. Several hours of work are gone. I'm more traditional in that respect, I prefer offline solutions. However, by all means, please don't be afraid of my concerns. If it works for you - great and have fun with it! ;)

That's very true, it would be nice if there was an online pick up where you left off feature, even if that save was a file that you could save every few minutes, or whatever duration you selected, then a proprietary file saved to a folder you create on your P.C. ;)

Nevertheless, the basic concept is a great idea. And I think I know why the maker did not provide an installer yet: The web solution is available to all users, no matter which OS they are using. As long as you have a functional web browser you are fine. One of the major drawbacks of Pepakura is that it is only available for Windows. Mac users are disadvantaged. And updates can be implemented on-the-fly and are usable for everyone at the same time. :)

As far as i know, aplication is developed as web based only so no offline versions are planed. Who knows, maybe developer will change his mind, but it would be lot of work to port it for other platforms.

That's what I meant. Everyone with a working web browser can access it, requirements of different OS are of no importance any longer. From the developer's site this offers another advantage: He is in full control of his creation. No-one would be able to tamper with it without consent.

Hi everyone! I am the one currently working on PaperMaker. Thanks for using my tool!

Please allow me to answer some concerns being discussed in this thread.

True, but you need a constant internet connection. When the connection is down for some reason you can't continue your work. Or even worse: You are about to complete your project and then, all of a sudden, the server crashes. Several hours of work are gone.
Actually the site is designed as a Single Page Application which only need to be loaded once. So even if the server crashes or your connection is down, as long as you do not refresh the page you are good to go :)

That's very true, it would be nice if there was an online pick up where you left off feature
This will definitely be implemented in the future!

This is exactly my thinking. To develop and maintain multiple versions for each OS will take much more time and effort which I am currently not have. But I am planning offline versions in the not-too-far future! :p

It has been some time since PaperMaker debut. It now has split view, vector export, auto cutting and many more improvements! Check it out: https://papercraft-maker.com

@phuocdh90 First off, welcome to Zealot! Secondly, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for designing this program and sharing it with the world.

You have come to the right place for all things paper/cardstock, as well as to build and hone your skills. The members here are very helpful.

So, if you have any questions, comments, concerns, need help or advice. Please feel free to ask and we will do what we can to help you (or at least point you in the right direction).

By all means, please post photos of your work so that others can see what you do easier. You can post photos directly from your computer to the thread without the need of a photo hosting site.

When you start a new project, please post a build thread. Build threads are a great way of show off your work and skills. Not only that, but if you run into an issue with a model you can highlight the area that you are having problems with and we can offer you some suggestions on how to deal with them.

Once again, welcome aboard. I hope that you enjoy yourself here. I look forward to seeing your work.

Thank You for joining Zealot. We will be more than happy to help you with your brilliant project. I think you have created something which could help many people to design their own models, and educate an unknown quantity of people. This in itself is a great, wonderful goal. I wish you all the luck. I must for the record, remind that that this forum is based on FREE.

If you have us help you develop this tool than turn around and decide it to be a pay for platform, or that is your ultimate goal, I want to know now.

It does not mean that people will not help you, but you should be up front with your ultimate goal. Accepting donations on a website, but still letting people use the online software is fine, as long as their are no restrictions.

I cannot endorse any pay for ventures on this forum. It is against the owner's wishes, as it is not only free advertising, but free development, and against the forum's rules. I personally charge a lot of money for that, in my private life.

Therefore, I do need a statement of your final intent. You should know that you have joined a forum that has great designers and artists, and model makers. There are members here involved in easily recognizable commercial ventures, but they are here under avatar names, for privacy and non disclosure reasons, and they charge nothing for their help, models, or anything for that matter.

I do look forward to see what you do. I specialize in NURBS ( Non-uniform rational basis spline) Modeling Using Rhino 5.0 64. I have used Rhino for 0ver a decade, and have learned different computer languages since 1973. I have decades experience in programming, tooling and operating 5 and 8 axis CNC machines, some as big as a house. I like what you are doing, and again, I hope it meets the parameters of this forum.

I am going to take your post as being your Introduction post, and will created an Introduction thread for you so you can make your comments there. It will be under "Introductions" ;)

@zathros Firstly, thanks for welcoming me!

This is not the first time someone has asked about my intention with PaperMaker. So please allow me to state my final goals with this project:

PaperMaker will always be free. There will be no paid feature, no restriction.

I do hope to build a bigger ecosystem with PaperMaker as the foundation, and making benefit through other means while keeping PaperMaker free for everybody.
Hope that was clear enough, and nothing is against the forum rules :)

WOW! This is really a nice surprise. Thank you for joining the forum! Welcome to zealot!!! We are honoured to have you onboard!!! Now we can talk to you directly and do not have to refer to you as "the creator" any longer. :Drinks:

The vector export is cool. I love clean lines. ;)

I'm using SketchUp and the Flattery plugin which works similar like your program. I like this approach because it gives you full control of your unfold. Pepakura's results are often a complete surprise. One click on the "unfold" button and your model is chopped into a zillion triangles spread all over the canvas..!

Thank you very much for your info on the program and for taking away my fears in case of a server crash. I have experienced some bad server issues before and it is good to be safe. thumbsup

That is fantastic!! Speaking for myself, and I believe, most of the forum, you will find many people here willing and wanting to help you achieve your goal. Superb!! :)

Hi, it's been a long time.
The app now has much more new and refined features, but I have gone again my own word of keeping the app entirely free...
Vast majority of the features are still free, but it is again this forum rule nonetheless. So to any moderator: please feel free to delete this thread.
That's all I want to say, thanks for having me on this forum :)
