Josh, since you are doing the modern era, will you be runnng 50 and 60 foot long cars, or even longer? This will relate to your minimum radius and turn-out sizes. Experiment and make sure things work before you make it permanent.
Good thinking Gary, I already thought of it tho  hehehe
I made sure where ever I want big locos to run I put a #6 custom line
turnout in and at least a 22 degree radius, the mainline has mostly 24 degree radius cept for the spots that you can tell are WAY bigger then 24" lol
As for modern era, yes, Modern day BNSF and UP with a splash of CNW in there to  :thumb:  My cars will be between 50-60' and nothing bigger besides the well cars and 62' tank cars which will only run on the mainlines and in the refinery. I know modern day has alot of cars that are over 60' long but im going to stick with 50'-60', I like my cars not too long but not too short hehehe and my engines, I love them short and long. Almost all the turnouts going into industries are #4 cept the ones for the refinery, those are all #6's as the 62' tank cars dont take #4 turnouts too well lol
Also most of the radius's on the industrail spurs are at least 18 degrees.
