I shall take your advice Tom.
Here is how that all turned out.
I bought an "as is" K Line switcher, CSX, and cars from a guy on ebay.
It was the only train item he had on several pages of glass and plates and general ebay crap.
So it was clearly stated it was untested and sold as is. That made sense.
That is a red flag generally when a seller has a whole page of train items for sale and claims he cant test them but this one time I figured it was safe. The engine was fried like a skillet of donuts.
After a nasty exchange of emails (mostly on my part, he provoked me), he agreed to a refund. Said there was no call to be a profane jerk (my words)
I decided not to send it back, I got it at a good price and had a plan. Besides I have been lusting for a cheap C&O or Chessie diesel for a while.
I stopped in at Main St.Trains on my way home from the V A hospital this afternoon and Jack found two such engines in the back and with a little coaxing a GN switcher limped around a test track. He offered to me for $25. I ran it a bit longer and the more it ran the better it ran and I took it home. The idea is to switch shells, repaint the GN and make it into a dummy.
Great! I stopped at radio shack to get a fuse holder for my new KW, please no applause, rushed home, headed for the kitchen table, set the engine and other stuff down, emptied my pockets and turned around to take off my shoes when THUNK!!! I fell backwards and I knocked it to the floor and into a half dozen pieces.
Someone come here and take my shot guns away please. It is open season on morons in this house tonight. Or maybe I should just go shooting with Mr. Cheeny and take my chances.
