I am not certain if it will make it canon to the series. However, after speaking to the person who requested the model, it will match (closer to) the diagramIf you did that, would that make it canon?
Yes, it is based on the TOS BSG. I am using the template of the TOS BSG that @Gearz designed and then adding the modifications to make the SATURN.

You could go one step ahead and make it transform into a cannon..! 
You actually HAVE one of these? That would be the most awesome toy for a BSG fan like you and Revell. I want one now!
I wish that I did! Someone on FB made it. I am not certain it they are selling them or not.
You could always make one out of cardstock and paper.
I think, somewhere, i saw paper models that actually transform, so it's more than possible.

Moving on to the main body.
Here are the parts for the main body!
Since the main body component is such a large (empty) box, I decided to make some internal formers (2 "spines" and 4 "ribs").
The formers are assembled.
The main body component is complete!

Did you, or are you going to, elevate the small dome in the red circle?
No, Since this BS has four sponsons, I will be putting the same (coffin like component and straight cross support) structure (which is the tram tube that runs between the two main sponsons) that is on the bottom, on the top.
