They look good. I might have tried a solid wire guitar string, either nylon or steel.They hold their shape be stretching them, one end affixed to a non moving object, and you pull on the other end attached to a woodenn dowel, you will feel it stretch around an inch and stay that way. That is how you harden the wire, then it is stiff enough to use as a pin. The final picture is too small to really make out, but if you use either Crazy Glue, or any glue that hardens stiff on string, and pull it through your ffingers, (not Crazy Glue), it will take the fiber and close the threads together and form a better looking spoke, which when painted, will have a smoother surface from the glue. Looks pretty good enough.
