Hi all,

i'm starting a ship build from Canon's Creative park - https://creativepark.canon/en/contents/CNT-0011213/index.html
Model looks fairly beginner friendly, no microscopic parts or tiny cylinder shapes etc.

- printer: Inkjet Brother DCP-T720DW
- paper: 200gsm (135 lbs) A4 ColorCopy (inkjet/laserjet friendly)
- print quality - "high" (the "worse" one of the two possible options: high/photo)

Papers (20 pieces) just came out of printer, and I will start adding some pictures in the evening as the fun begins... :)

That looks like it will be a fun build. I am looking forward to seeing how it will turn out! I wish you the best of luck with this project.

What better to start with, than the last point in the step-by-step guide... :)
Short session only, left wing of the base done, right one + center to go sometime tomorrow...
Completed wing edges colored with alcohol based marker, cut pieces not colored yet.
Scale cube in the middle is 5x5x5cm (approx. two inches).

Make sure you cut the "White" out of the railings, it will make the model look so much better. You needn't put in an interior, but if you cut out the windows, and put dark plastic behind, it will make the ship really "pop". ;)

Right, i'm wondering why they didn't do this in the leading image - keeping it there makes it look a bit less difficult to make i guess.
Using the scalpel will make it easy to do this "extra" over the standard manual and make it look more detailed :).

Finished the base (pattern cut from 3 whole pages in total).

Started first points of the instructions -> internal frame. It looks quite rigid and nicely thought through.
I do not have comparison/experience with other models yet though. S far the boring/not graphically pleasing part, but someone's gotta to the hard work :).
On the positive side, there is no need for edge coloring etc., as the whole frame will be covered with other pieces...
Inner frame on the picture is from approx. 3 pages, and one partial page of parts still to go.

Great work :BRAVO:

did you laminate the internal forms to give them more rigidity?

no lamination done (yet) -> I don't have experience with this process. I've read on some hair spray usage either on paper sheets before cutting or on final model, but still didn't get to the process itself.
Definitely would be nice to have better final resistance of model to manipulation (occasional but still), and weather effects (bit of sun + breeze on room venitlation).

Good start, and always a great idea to start on the base, you'll see how you paper 'stands' up to being folded and have somewhere to plonk the model during construction.

For a split second, I thought you had cut that from wood - as the pattern was that good.

Lastly you re-sparked my memories of going on a steamer for my partners 50th birthday meal, boy was she drunk!

I took a day cruise on a paddelwheeler in the Mississippi river from Natchez MS to Vicksburg MS. The boat took all day, 9am to 4pm, my aunt met us after a 1 1/2 hour drive.

This is the kind of model that you could make as it is, or by adding on, and being creative (we call that "greebling") you end up with a much more aesthetically pleasing model. :)

That sounds a great, would have loved a long trip - we set of from New Orleans late afternoon/evening, and got back a couple of hours later, slightly full of food and 'The Captain's special cocktail! It was enough for a couple of Brits

I was born in South Mississippi, and after being raised all over the world as an Air Force Dependent, returned to MS at 16. One of my aunts lived in Natchez, and she paid for the cruise for my, brother and I, and her 2 grandchildren. the return trip from Vicksburg to Natchez, was an evening, "Adults only" trip, but only 2 hours long, due to going with the current.

Time has come to bid farewell to straight joints, seamless lines, and similar advanced mumbo jumbo.
I keep telling myself i'm doing this for the experience, not beauty contest... :p
Some hull parts couldn't reach the edges they should due to tension of the braces.
Despite trying to go slow, some mm fractions add up and model apparently is not designed with eases for beginner builder and occasional offs.
Tomorrow time will hopefully allow me to finish the bottom part and start looking into deck/wheels.
I assume whole hull shape will look tiny bit better when remaining parts are added and deck + side wheels reinfoce the currently weak center part.

I think its the stressed look, and its where the hull has hit sandbanks - looks good bud

It looks good, you could always fill and paint the hull. When doing hulls, always start from the ends. The middle sections are easier to fit and compensate for. I always cut the black line out, and compensate with the framing. This prevents obtuse seam lines. If you're going to paint, you can use less paint trying to cover the black. :)

right, i was thinking about cutting off the black lines, but was afraid of how to compensate... do you mean you reduce/cut down the framing size as well? or add some strip on the hull to cover the summed up removed black lines...
