Metal Earth Models of the Star Wars Universe

Dented Rick brought the Metal Earth models to my attention - thx for this.

I started with the Millenium Falcon, and although a detailed description is attached I thougt it might make sense to post pictures of the building. Maybe there will also some hints for future builds.

First when I opened the package I was astonished about the size. I thougt the models would be bigger.

The parts are very small. I strongly recommend smal pliers which are very helpful.
The parts can be detached easily without any clipper.

final parts and final pics.

Summary. Very detailed model with a very good instruction sheet. If you are not afraid of small parts a model worth doing.
There are many metal earth models - on the mentioned homepage. This is for sure not the last I will do.

Fun doing it and the result is an eyecatcher. A fine plier and a fine tweezer is recommended.

Very nice Starbuck, I built the same thing myself last week! Sadly did not have access to your thread at the time.

So, are you ready for for Serious Metal?!?!?

Here's my attempt :) I decided to leave off the fins at the engine, I think they're too big for the scale of the ship.

Thinking of playing around with photoshop with the last pic :) & then tackling Darth Vader's X-1... :)

Update: not yet the X-Wing, but R2d2 and on the opposite side of the force an ATAT.

All 3 done by now - great models - and a strong recommendation to go through the instruction step by step and part by part.
Same parts look to be the same, but they are not.

Very NICE builds, thanks for sharing. I have quite a few of the Metal Earth kits. So far I've only built the piano and drum set as gifts. I have the Millennium Falcon, R2-D2, TIE fighter, and X-Wing (and more). Just need some time to build them all now.

As a build note, I have to use a lighted magnifier when building these.

Your builds represent the best that these models could be built. I think the manufacturers could do much better for the same price though. Nice decoration on a shelf though, definitely a eye catcher, especially with the others you have built, and you knocked them out perfectly, as I have seen other pictures of these, and they all look the same (well, some worse, but they didn't have the expertise you have). Great job! :)

@Ron: As a build note, I have to use a lighted magnifier when building these.

----I know what you mean some parts are really very small and they have to be bend - huhhh some times really a hard puzzle.
But - thank god - my eyes do their job well - so I managed to do without a magnifier - sure it would help but I do not have one.

@zathros: thanks for your compliment. I think the models are good enough - only thing missing is some colouring. I think I´ll try to bring colour to my model of R2D2. If it works I will present within this thread.

Building the x-wing at the moment - hardest part by now - the pilot - and the cockpit.

All in all these models are fun doing - only thing you have to do is to follow the instruction step by step then the result will be fine.

Over all, I was not very impressed with this series, but that X-Wing looks great!! If you paint these, you may have to chemically treat them as them may have been treated and you may have trouble having primer and paint sticking to them. Use one of the parts "trees" to do tests. Great job on the X-Wing!! :)

@Cybergrider - sometimes you get the parts rather cheap and wihout shipping costs. (Falcon seen at $4,50, Star Destroyer $3,99) - I mostly do not buy at regular or Initial prices as it is a matter of Money as you mentioned.

@ Zathros: I also thought about the Problem of putting a colour on the model. I will follow your proposal to use the parts of the "tree" to see how it works.
News to follow...

Excellent job with all the Star Wars models
You are really cranking them out. I was looking at Slave 1 in the store the other day and thought that I would like to see that one built. I really like the job you did on that.
I have started the Queen Anne's Revenge (with pictures to post here as my first thread) and must say the engineering surprised me. I have bought a couple of others as well.

Great models!

Put the UH-1 Huey together in about 45-minutes. It is a nice "bookshelf" model.

Also have the LM, but haven't found the time to start building it yet.

Your builds are really cool looking!

Thank you for sharing the photos.

Yes I agree, the models are nice detailed and they fit together very good if you follow the instruction carefully.
Some parts are really small, but I think it is worth doing them.

@ painting - it seems as the colours I use for painting my plastic models cover well. I tested with some remaining parts of the tree. So I will try to colour my r2d2 later on.
If that will be successful it might make models even more interesting.

But for now the Imperial Star Destroyer.

P.S. at costs - as mentioned before - sometimes you can get them rather "cheap" in eastern stores.
