Hello everybody
It has been a lot of time since I published on this forum.

Just began the Liebherr digger designed by nosports (Chriess) and Retunga
The design is interesting. No cardboard is supposed to be used and according to instruction paper heavier than 80 gsm should be used. I will use the 145 g/m2 paper.
All in all, the model looks impressive with working boom and swiveling body.
The instruction is an overwhelming 70 pages booklet with explanations and pictures.

So first, according to instruction, need to assemble the inner part of the swivel joint and mount it on main chassis. Then need to make and install outer part of swivel joint. Then I installed outer cover and made a locking mechanism

Afterwards I started with parts of the tracks bases
Looks good for now, except that I made a mistake in making body slopes above the tracks bases. I will fix it later.

No serious problem found. Two things made me scratch my head:
1. The round part of the middle section of the tracks base - I could never build it round enough, so I made 1.5 mm cardboard formers of the needed diameter and voila, things look happy
2. The lower support wheels covers. I just could not understand how to mount these. So I separated them from their holding strip and glued to their places on the outside part of the track base

One thing that bothers me - there are no markings of where to install accessories, had to guess.

The tracks are made of ( or off, what's correct?) strips. No special troubles here, just need to be careful.
In all, the parts are large. I never used my 30 cm ruler so much like in this model.
11.5 pages of paper on this substructure- impressive!

Nice to hear from you. I like models of real objects, and this looks interesting! :)

Good start! It will be interesting to continue your work. With a simple (but laborious) extra work the chains can be improved a lot.

You can always return to the tracks easy enough. :)
 
Excellent ...I grabbed this years ago, as it looked like a very detailed, quality model, just have never got around to it, will watch this with interest!

Oppps ... I was thinking of another model the Liebner L586 Loader HERE and from Liebner Website you can download a PR776
I was beginning to wonder why it wasn't familiar to me ( of course getting to my age, memory tends to go second) I took a look to see if I had some ideas on your questions... oh will still be following!!

Retunga did a fantastic job on recoloring, and modifying Chriess's' models. (I hope I have that order right). There was someone, can't remember who, but tried to cause a rift between these two fantastic model designers, when in fact there was none. They show how when cooperating, great things come of it. ;)

A lot of people build models but are shy of posting them fearing negative remarks, or just don't like posting their builds, suggestions aren't negative, but they must be worded properly, constructively. It's amazing how many people I see log on who have we belonged to this forum for years, but rarely post anything. I guess the just enjoy reading the threads? This forum has one of the nicest groups of people in any forum I have and do belong to. :)

A small update - Backbone assembly (as the designers call it)
Here I bumped into first problem which was caused by my decision to use thicker paper. Parts 47 and 48 needed to be shortened a bit and the part 47 (internal reinforcement) had to be rearranged. I hope this won't ruin the backbone sturdiness

It looks very good.One of the things that I pay more attention is to interpret the best grammage for certain parts.If it is not well specified sometimes is complicated, I had this problem countless times. Today I do not miss so much, it is better to stay Short to exceed. Good progress.

Well, usually it is pretty simple.
But in this case the designers simply mentioned that paper of density of 80 gram per square meter or higher should be used. So need to adapt certain things to this.
 
I've always designed my models with the intent of using 110 lb. card stock. I get confused with all these paper specs, I have no idea what "80 gram per square meter or higher means".
 
As you say, usually and if the designer advises the grammage is easier. But I have found sometimes that some pieces on the same sheet should have another grammage. I have passed that the design recommended paper of 160 / 180grs, and a Small tube is very difficult to shape with that grammage. Another drawback, at least in my country, is the difference in quality between brands, it is often remarkable and in the end you do not really know which is the right one.
