Hey guys! Been gone for a little bit on vacation or for those of you across the pond "holiday". Once again I feel like I'm in alternative universe land! After reading some of the posts there are a couple of recommendations I'd like to make.
1. Always have your pics on your hard drive and utilize a usb backup if possible. Also, archive to a CD or DVD. CDs & DVDs can't be wiped by an EMP burst. However, the drives that read them are another story...
2. Backup data using the internet wayback machine. It's NOT perfect, but at least it's something. For those of you NOT familiar with it here's the link:
Everyone should back up their posts. However, if someone on staff has the time everything one way or the other should be backed up virtually as well as on a personal server or with the other methods listed above.
3. For threads - make a word file of your work. That way all you have to do is copy and paste your work to the forum once again.
I'm sure that there's a few more things I can talk about, but that's some of the thoughts that I have right now.
The site looks a little closer to the original than it did before. Some of the imogis have been wiped out. Must have been another thing lost to the "transfer". Hit counts and views look like they have been reset or wiped out for various posts.
Another recommendation - is there a way to have the sub categories like sci fi / fanstasy automatically be displayed on the front page so one doesn't have to click on the next sub folder for it to show up? Just wondering..
Glad we haven't been totally dispersed to cyberspace.

For example:
One image was 4160x3120 pixels @2.6MB. After resizing it came down to 1248x936 pixels @ 125.6kB
It still looks okay to me on the thread in either full screen or thumbnail.
I suppose it's the curse of modern cameras and phones with incredibly high pixels..
The new site is great. I really like the interface and it's super intuitive. Kudos to the new owner.

I've noticed that I have moderator permissions for everything in this thread. I checked through and also have the same moderator permission for every thread in the "Zealot News & Support" section.
I've being through the other sections and I don't have moderator permissions for those, so it is just that section that I am in the wrong permissions group.

2mbs is quite large for a picture, generally speaking. I use XNView to makes pictures smaller, and can get the down to 104 x 763, and they are only a couple of 100 kbs. in size. We should limit picture sizes, especially out of focus fuzzy ones, I've seen too many huge ones like that. Making a fuzzy picture (out of focus) bigger does not make it easier to see, I think we would all agree. :Coffee:

Personally I would embrace such a limitation for build thread pics. I have a metered connection and it is sometimes very annoying to have to wait several minutes till all pictures have been loaded, not to mention the amount of high speed volume that gets eaten up in the process. Gallery pictures should be larger though to really showcase the beauty of your build.

I am setting a limit of 2mb max for thread pictures. Seriously though, 500kb can get you a huge picture if you run it through XNView and resize the picture, you will see the picture size stay the size it is, but the file size will decrease. When it goes a bit too small, just go back one step, and click on the "Save as" option. XNView is one of the best picture management programs out there, especially for screen grabs, and it's absolutely FREE!!!
