Dr Tetrodes attempt at Grey Hunters figure.

Hi,

Trying my hand a small figure.

Had to ask for help! Could not figure out what pieces were what. Thank you Zergei619 for your link to your method to put them together. Sorry, I got interrupted while creating this post.

So, I will post pix of where I am, so far.

Step 0, build the head first, no pix. ;-(


Step 1, build the feet and lower leg. I did not realize that the 'straps / strips' shown on the plan, were NOT to be cut from the top of the shoe. I had cut them completely off, and then I saw the picture in Zergei619's link. Grrrr.... so, following my original plan, I took the center section and built it up to 4 layers of cardstock, then wrapped with the straps, then attached the lower legs.




Upper legs are a roll of the the cut piece. Identifying this one and the arms was my biggest problem. I used a toothpick to roll, then glue. Kneecaps cut out.


Now for the main trunk of the body, inner layers. Again, thank you Zergei619 for your link, I could not have figured this out by myself. 3 pieces, used foam and a ball stylus to shape, then glue, added the belt buckle thing at this time.




On to the arms, all cut out, using a Q-tip, to roll.



Roll, and glue. make sure you roll straight. ;-)



Shoulders and hand pieces cut out.



Questions:

1. When do you start assembling the bits I have created so far? I am just creating bits of it, in what I think are logical pieces, but am afraid of assembly because I don't want things to not fit.
2. When you assemble, where do you start? Feet? Torso? Arms?
3. Generally, how tall should these Grey Hunters be? Top of head to bottom of feet?
4. How do you work with such small pieces? Currently all pieces are in a small candy tin, to prevent loss due to movement, sneezing or coughing.
5. Any special tools or techniques for working small?

OK, forgot about a couple of things I did before I started taking pictures.

Head and external and internal parts of the torso.

Is it a good idea to use a shaft through the torso to the head for strength? Any ideas on how to do that? I mounted the head, temporarily on a shaft to no lose it.





Starting point of plan. This is where I had no idea what was what or if there was an order to assemble.



Instructions found in the Grey Hunters model, after I asked for help, but still need some help.

Working on a few more sub-assemblies. The bolter was a bit fiddley to cut out, but I like how it went together.




Still trying to figure out the method to get the shoulders to be rounded correctly. Any suggestions?

I tried forming the yellow wolf's head, but, can not get the fingers to stay together long enough to glue.

For the Red, I glued the trim strip on first, then formed it, but get the same issue, hard to glue.

How do you glue something that small?

You could build up a lattice kind of support inside as you go along with thick cardboard strips, glued inside the torso to give it strength. You are off to a great start. The pieces you have made so far look great!!

Zathros, my fingers are not small enough to do that! That is why the questions, how do you guys work small?

Some more progress, I found an aluminum rod just the right size for the shoulder plates and used some low tack tape to hole it in place and then glue the feathered edges at the top.



Now, How does this go together? Which is the base layer, what is next, multiple assemblies showing here?

I am confused on this one!



Any suggestions or references would be very welcome!

Awesome, that reference will help a lot! I had about given up on working on this one.

Anybody have any idea of the assembly sequence? For the figure?

I would advise working from small to large. It's easier to adjust large pieces than small ones. If you work on a limb, do that whole limb, that way that limb will fit, then do the opposing one, but do all limbs one at a time, smallest part to biggest. Dry fitting parts will give you an idea of how to proceed, as you can tell what might make another part harder to put on. Always add the small bits first, then the large bits. It's easier to adjust larger pieces. I would make the torso in one shot, using the limbs to make sure by dry fitting that they will fit properly.

Pretty handy reference there @Zergei619! I might end up making some Classic Space Marines with those.... Given how hard the plastic ones are to acquire anymore (and that's before the scalpers premium on top of GW's over-inflated prices).

sudy im working with a partner who had done better templates for Astartes and Primaris im still working on them but ill finish them when i can. also i have another partner who has done amazing templates for Primaris too i will ask them for permission to share them ok?
