Colonial Scarlet Viper MK-II (based on the Colonial Viper MK-II from (TNS) BSG)

Quite a while ago, I was surfing the internet for information and photos of the Colon Viper MK-II, when I can across this Viper made in plastic.




So, I figured that I could do something very similar in paper.
I have decided to use Ninjatoe's Viper MK-II as the base model and work from there. Here is a pic of the wings and tail parts that I developed for this project.

I have attached the top engine and the tail. Yes, the tail is reversed. It is all part of the FSW concept.

Starting with the engine. I did not add greebles to it.


So, with the tail, I just laminated the parts. All of the parts are just single layered (110#) cardstock, with the exception of the tail root (the bottom parts with the "GALACTICA" name on it) is laminated to 1 mm thickness.


The tail is assembled.


The tail is now attached. I know that it looks backwards. However, that is part of the whole FSW (Forward Swept Wing) look.

Here are the wings. The right wing is thicker and has a blunt edge and the left wing has more of a sharp edge. Reason why, is that this is a "proof of concept" build. I am planning to rework the wings a bit and add formers (if needed).

In the series "Caprica" there was a scene where they were flying Vipers that had 2 top fins on them. I have no seen these modeled anywhere.

That would be a very interesting one to see designed and built!
Another one that would be good to see designed and built would be the Colonial Viper Mk XIII.

This one was supposed to be the one that Kara "Starbuck" Thrace flew back when she was "gone" for a period of time and then flew back in a "BRAND NEW" MK-II Viper.
Interesting fun fact. Even though this plane was never seen in the series, it is still considered canon.

That plane follows the same design aesthetics as the rest of the show. The intakes look like small iterations of Galactica's landing bases.

Of the pics I posted, the noses of those remind me of the A7/A8 Corsair Jet engine aircraft, a wee bit. Without the cockpit, of course.

It also looks like the nose of a P-40 Warhawk. If I remember correctly, the model that was used, was a WW-II aircraft for the base of the fuselage.

actually now that I look at this...it could be modeled from an ME-109

Those P39's are in a lot of Russian museums as they operate extremely well 30 degrees below zero, and they put them to good use, they could not understand "Why America would give them such a fine aircraft!"

The only thing the P-39 series ever had against it, was the vast (by comparison) amount of other types in the USAAF inventory. It excelled at what it was designed for, low altitude air superiority, and ground attack, that 30 mm in the nose is, to this day, considered a Very big gun for a fighter...

The F-86D has a nose very close in appearance to this
