Building a Traction Layout

Great snow scene, Chris. I did a Christmas card some time back using baking soda dusted onto my scene. Don't know that I could summon up the courage to put all that polly filler on my track.

Hi Guys been laid up for a while and will be for about 6 more weeks. with a knee replacement.
We are over the pain barriers now.
I took some random shots before surgery, and hope to get back at it by November.

Been while since I added my progress here.
I have revamped the yard for traction (pulled the darn thing down ) and have just finished relaying the track.
I have to rewire the whole layout ready for DCC, but first I have to string all the overhead, and take out the blocks.
Here is the platform for my interurban small yard that I redid.
I have two tracks crossing the road I just finished.
Notice I did not use switch motors but installed extended manual throws.
Been while since I added my progress here.

Hi Steve, First let me say your Layout is looking great mate.
I did a "how to'' which you will find at the above link.
One is able to allow lights to the switch the other is more simple and great for yards.
I will take a close up picture today regards the extended throw with the tube for the wire to go under the road.

OK!.
One of the throws was really glued up after the scenery went in, after tugging it a bit the brass wire bent.
I did not want to undo the glue or lift the switch as part of that was in the road bed.
So improvise I must!
I usually bend the wire to fit in the hole where he switch motor pin would go.
Now I have to do it this way as the picture denotes.
I will in future only use steel 1/16th wire for this job.
Problem fixed in 5 minutes.

Outstanding job! Your rock-work looks tremendous and so does the whole scene. I think what I like best about your layout is that it has it's own unique personality and style (like all great layouts).

A liitle more work on this yard section .
With allowing for trolly pole operation and not just pantographs the over head is a lot slower to put up as every section has to be checked and double checked both ways, as trolly poles take no prisoners.
I have done a large section but here is just the yard.

Awesome Chris - I'm impressed you're doing trolley poles!! Any chance of a PCC on the layout?
