The BC 304 DAEDALUS.
Inspired by Jan's Sulaco that I've been building i have decided to venture into what is sure to be a gribble nightmare but a labor of love none the less. This is the first pic of the forward hull.

I will be attempting to mimic Jan's sturdy frame design with the cubic idea. and most likely layer and gribble the outer skin when complete should be about 4 long, 2 feet wide and just under 1 foot high. If all goes well i'll release it.
All criticism welcome but please include helpful info with it. no point telling me i suck if your not going to tell me how to make it better. Please no arguments about cannon, almost every view of the ship throughout the shows was different from the last. This is all best guesses and wishful thinking at this point.

I won't compare. But my goal is ease of construction and stability. It's overall shape doesn't lend itself well to gravity especially at the hangers but I belive this design will be good.
 
It looks like you are off to a really good start and that you have put quite a bit of thought into this model.
By the dementions of the finished model, it sounds like it will be a MONSTER of a model.
I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
 
This sounds really good. I am so bummed that the whole Stargate Franchise seems to have come to an end. The SyFy channel really blew it. I still don't know how wrestling go onto a Science Fiction channel?

I look forward to your build, looks like your off to a good start. If you are going big, make sure you incorporate inner supports, they will be necessary. I would not hesitate to use balsa wood either!
 
I too was surprised at Syfy's choices for programing. I figure this will be my little part in keeping stargate alive.

I think Stargate Universe really had a shot a doing something new, Oh well! I will continue to follow, and get my dose of Stargate.
 
There is still a chance that a comeback is possible. There is still a very large following around the world. I like all of the Stargate series, but actually prefered Universe. For me the series needs finishing properly.

There was talk of some films coming out direct to dvd, with actors conferming that they were in the films, but I think they've been put on the back burner. Hopefully when the world economy gets better the studios will pick them up again.

I'd like to believe this as well, but to be honest, I felt that they were done as a channel when they took on the "Sy-Fy" moniker. Felt like they were fixing something that wasn't broken.

They wanted to copyright the scifi name for there production company but the courts ruiled they could not copyright a genre so they changed the name. And I agree canceling all the science-fiction shows doesn't lend well to the channel
 
Absolutely. Looking just at tos star trek, name one technology (other than a starship or transporter) we don't have today and that was only 30 years. Yes there really are laser guns "phasers" albeit very week powered, and homemade too (geek giggle)
 
After some scaling issues and inconsistency problems, i decided to start this again with a new approach, a few new references and couple new tools. now after 3 hours of setup and a few more modeling(new tools take some getting used to but there so good) I have arrived at

so much MORE respect for modelers. not easy coming up with a design for large scale models that will be sturdy to work with, strong enough to support themselves, and still be fun to build. time for coffee.

next up the connecting sections to the main hull under the deck "turtle shell" and structural support for the hangers.
I'm also considering when i begin work on the missile hatches to design silos for any one interested in that level of detail(i know i am).
This of course brings up the question "will i be designing an open hanger deck?" honestly i haven't decided, but i am leaning toward yes. This would also mean that id have to design a scaled f-302.... as it so happens that's what i've been gathering references for over the last week. GO BIG OR GO HOME.

Spent some time working on the 302 so i have a few shots of that. This is my 3rd version and i think im going to try another but I may test build this first. I think a test build will give me a better feel for what can be done at this size. The wing span comes in at just under 1 1/2". I'll have to add it to the the mini models that were going around when jan released his dropship for the sulaco.
