Interesting. I'm a member of the original 11th Air Assault Division that tested all of the concepts, equipment and tactics from 1963 - 1966, prior to the existence of the 101st, and former paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division. I'm also one of the original recipients of this - the...

Isn't that what they make little toggle switches for? My experience has always been that complexity begins in the mind of the builder - hence the KISS acronym...Keep It Simple, S..... Sounds like you're just a tad over-committed. It's supposed to be a hobby, not a job. :rolleyes...

Sorry - I was referring to your earlier problem with opening engine house doors. However, I recently read an article by a guy who powers his little locos with the vibrator motors from cellphones. :thumb:

These should get you started. The bottom one contains illustrations of how the overheads look. Just type "overhead caternary systems into any search engine. All of this info will be in any decent book on traction lines in your LHS, too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overhead_lines...

They are bringing out new articulateds and other locos - try the latest issue of N-Scale. I would love to have one, but it's too big and the wrong era for my layout.

If 3x3 = 9 sq inches, then 4x4 = 16 sq inches, and 6x6 = 36 sq inches, not 144 sq inches which is the area of your "sq foot" squares. I use 1/4 inch graph paper, one square initially equals 3 inches with four squares to the foot, enabling me to scale up or down as I see fit...

A deities eye veiw of the soon to be Desolation & Eastern (AKA The learning curve)

If you are priming models, the hobby paint companies make primers specifically for that purpose. Generally, you want to avoid anything that is solvent based unless you have tested it first. For overall painting, such as sealing and priming the layout woodwork itself any general type of...

The Little River Rail Road in Doc Tom's Back Yard

Hmmm...let's see - I didn''t say anything at all about "time". Most outdoor railroaders spend quite a bit on landscaping, drainage, etc. in order to get started. Then there are turnouts, which IIRC require air pressure instead of electrical power. As for expense, I frequent the...

The Little River Rail Road in Doc Tom's Back Yard

I strongly suspect that the perceived lack of interest in large scale railroading has to do with the relatively huge expense involved, and the fact that outdoor railroads are not suitable for all climates and locations.
