    Staging yards.

Given the choice, which would you choose? - a 5 track reverse loop staging yard or - a 6 track double ended staging yard? Both would be the same length, the double ended one has an extra track to run the engines around. Both have thier advantages, the reverse loop staging yard...

I have returned to N scale.

It's nice you came back to your senses Dave! I guess seeing that 11 car passenger train being pulled by 3 engines was enough to do it! It's kind of hard to do that in HO scale! Welcome back!

    Atlas Turnout Alternative

I get them for Brooklyn Locomotive Works, Pete is a great guy to deal with. The only problem is that he doesn't ship to Canada, but my dad has a US address, so I just get stuff shipped to him, and he sends it to me. The web site is, http://www.buynscale.com/ Here is the link to the Peco...

    Atlas Turnout Alternative

I'd go with Peco switches too, I know they are more expensive, but like Wayne said, you don't want to have to go and relace the Atlas ones after you realize that they don't work as reliably as you had wanted. I keep ordering Peco switches from BLW, usually 20 at a time. With the exchange rate...

    Kato AC4400CW on 9" radius

I didn't know they had low pro wheels, but I would say you might have problems on that tight of radius too.

    Timetable

That is exactly it, there is a 2.08% - 2.4% grade westbound from Stephen to Field, so I don't want trains going 50 scale MPH down that hill! I've slowed the speed down to "65" on most of the down grades.

    looking for N SCALE?

I have a VERY nice CN custom Kato SD40-2W with a digitrax DN163K1a decoder installed already, the headlight has even been moved to the nose! It was purchased from PWRS. Contact me by email and I can send you pictures if you are interested.

    Train consist

I thought about adding the tonnage for the train, but it doesn't really mean anything, for most of the model cars, they weigh the same empty as they do full. It would just be more numbers, and I am trying to keep the numbers and amount of info as little as possible. The real train consists are...

    Train consist

I'm still palying around with this, so any suggestions would be great. Here is a copy of a train consist, it is a westbound grain train, going from the upper staging yard, track #1, to the lower staging yard, track #5. (US1 to LS5) Along the way, who ever runs this will have to pick up 2 units...

    Timetable

Here is a copy of the timetable I made and use for my Laggan Sub layout. The speeds are not in MPH, but the speed on the DigiTrax throttle.

    Track ID

I have gone and assigned track ID's to all of the spurs and yard tracks on my layout. They are all printed on the back of my timetables, so now when someone comes by for an operating session, they will have a list of all the tracks and where they are located, in case they have any work to do...

    Dummies

No, not that kind! I had an old Atlas GP40 that I custom painted, and besides the fact that it had the older high speed motor in it, and wasn't easy to convert to DCC, it was just sitting in a dead track in my yard for looks. I figured it would be better to be able to run it on the layout...

    Question about 4% grade

I have between 2.08% and 2.4% grade on my Laggan Sub layout,(the same grade as the real Laggan Sub.) and that grade is about 120 feet long. I run 40-50 car trains with 3-4 locomotives on them, and the tightest curve is 24" raius. 2 Kato SD90's will pull a 40 car unit grain train with no...

    Cheap lumber loads.

I just printed some of those loads out, they look great, but I'm having trouble finding a size to print them that fits the cars. What did you do?

To solder or not to solder

Hello, I used a latex contact cement to hold down my cork roadbed and track. I'd solder the curves, but leave the straight sections for expansion.
