    Drill Sizes

I'll try again..... Here's number, metric, and fractional inch drill sizes up to 7/64. It's worth printing it out (larger than it shows here) and pinning it up where you can find it.

    Been away for some time.

Glad you're back T. Wondered where you'd gone. Shame you had to let the caboose go. Speaking of cabeese. Yesterday the BNSF was chugging thru town with a way freight. They had an old wide-cupola SF caboose (very faded, very dirty, obviously yanked out of storage somewhere) in tow --- first...

Walthers RTR 66' HD 4 Truck Flat

Walthers has really become something else. Their prices have become entirely outrageous. And now theiy're doing "false advertising" too. BillS

Thought I'd Stop In & Say Hi!

Hi Charlie, Always good to hear from you. And hope the eyes continue NOT to degenerate. Getting old is hell. I don't like it one bit. Whoever invented the term "golden years" was a fraud. As an example: I was in your neighborhood (La Grange) on Derby weekend, and went hiking with a...

    Modeling Interurban Railways

Yeah, but by 1902 steam locos had become big, black, complex, dirty monsters --- not the clean, dainty, simple little jewels they had been! (And wood smoke smelled a whole bunch nicer than coal or oil!) BillS

    Misery Loves Company

The bad: My closest (about 2 miles) hobby shop, has almost completely adapted to selling tinplate and G scale stuff. Apparently that's where the bucks are. The limited HO stock is nearly all cheapy ready-to-run. The paint bottles are old and half dried up, and there are few if any tools or...

    Modeling Interurban Railways

Darn, Chris. I've got so much time and money and emotion invested in 1880's steam modeling, that I keep trying to resist traction. You do not make it any easier! BillS

Come for a ride on the traction line

    Atlas Turntable??

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that at one time the full-deck turntable was NOT all that uncommon. Some apparently to keep the snow out (as Glen said) but also some, probably in busy engine terminals, were to keep people from falling in. I don't know whether a full deck with a gallows...

    Original P-K Transportation?

Jon, I think the truck is late twenties or even thirties. It looks more like a model A than a T. Neat pictures. I particularly like the goats and the little wagon. To be technical, I think (not dead sure) a cart is two wheels, and a wagon is four. BillS

    What is happening?

I had hesitated, but finally decided to chime in here. There’s no denying it, the Gauge has definitely changed. I don’t mean the new look. I’m sure everyone finds it even better than before. I guess the biggest change is the number of people. Back when there were only a few hundred of us...

Yes, HAPPY CANADA DAY..... But how come you guys are installing a neo-con government in the same year we're going to get rid of ours????? BillS

    Casting question

I cannot directly answer the cost question, but am sure casting would be cheaper than buying cars to bash. Compared to buying lots of styrene, I don't know, but doubt if it would be a big factor either way. I haven't seen any articles on resin casting passenger cars or cabooses --- that is...

    cast flat cars-HO

Greg, Go to the "Scratchin n Bashin" forum and do a search for resin You'll find a few threads on casting. Also, I believe it was in the latest Model Railroader which I cannot find at this moment, there was a pretty good article on casting. BillS

What's it really like in the U.S.?

As already stated, economic conditions are a big variable across the States. So variable that it is impossible to make a flat statement that can apply to the whole country. Home “X” where I live (a very nice residential, middle to upper-middle-class town in the suburbs of Southern California)...

    Finally back.....

Thanks Belg, Ray, Tyson, & Chris. Belg: No modeling, no MRR purchases. This was a total holiday. Chris: It's dumb, I know, but I always carry a camera on a trip --- and hardly ever take any pictures. But here is a little car you might enjoy seeing. I met a guy in Fort Collins...
