    Kadee Whisker Couplers

I've noticed that in some coupler pockets, the Kadee Whisker couplers have the whiskers sticking way out. Is it a good idea to trim the whiskers down?

    Bachmann GE 45 Tonner

mine is dcc ready, how does one go about installing a decoder in this little thing? It doesn't look like it has room for a decoder.

    Bachmann GE 45 Tonner

I got my 44 tonner today and it runs good and slow (although prototypically it might not have been THAT slow) I'm surprised that a spectrum loco doesn't even have flywheels. It looks like an overlubed Life-Like drive. It works though. I saw your video. It's not that quiet though.

    Bachmann GE 45 Tonner

how well do they run? Do they take off at 200scale mph? How many cars can it pull?

    Digitrax or NCE?

Digitrax is NOT as bad as people have said them to be. the Zephyr is a very basic system. If you have the Super Chief and a DT400R throttle, you will get the ultimate experience. The DT400R is a radio equipped throttle which means you can walk around with it without having to plug it in. The...

    Bachmann GE 45 Tonner

GE also made other locomotives that look alike so it might now have been a 45 tonner. The 44 tonner and the 50 tonner both look like the 45 tonner. I just got a Bachmann Spectrum 44 tonner on ebay for less than $20 shipped. (it's factory painted although unlettered. I'll put decals for GECX...

    F units and diaphragms.

Not with superliners at least. With MBTA's Kawasaki Bilevels or GO Transit's Lozenge cars, the diaphragm is still in the same place as the single level coaches so that it makes it easier to have mixed consists.

    Atlas, Blue Line, or Genesis??

Blue Line is best for sound engines. Second for sound is Atlas with QSI sound. Genesis is a better version of athearn's regular line. the regular line is growly, but life-like and bachmann is worse! atlas is all around best for details unless you want to do Kato. Kato is the best for...

Athearn Ready to Roll model questions

I think Athearn is only re-running the old RTR GP38s instead of retooling them (which would cost them more money) My SD50 is a lot older than my GP38-2, and it is dcc ready and wired for directional lighting with microbulbs

    Bachmann GE 45 Tonner

    Questions about drive

I see that the chassis has 6 axles... A GP35 is a 4 axle unit.

I've noticed the same with with an older proto2000 gp18

    Questions about drive

It looks like it could be a Roco drive. Atlas used to import Roco stuff and repackage it as Atlas. Especially with the geeps

Athearn Ready to Roll model questions

It probably doesn't. I have a GP38-2 that was a limited edition run back in 2006. It was basically a blue box model that's been improved a bit.

Athearn Ready to Roll model questions

The thing with Athearn RTRs is that most if not all of the geeps were either from an older run or were just re-runs of old designs. Thats why they don't have directional headlights or DCC plug.

    MRC decoders

Lenz is the one making the fussy decoders. Atlas is just selling their stuff with them already installed. Lenz is not providing any fixes because they know that their decoders are faulty and hard to work with but they will always get buisness because people trust the Atlas brand. Hopefully...

    MRC decoders

The Lenz decoders have problems speed matching with decoders from other brands. Lenz, the company, and Atlas, aren't releasing the instructions on how to do it nor are they going to reveal how to RESET the decoder. They think it's going to ruin their buisness or something.

    Truss Bridges and Bridge Tracks

They're called retaining rails to stop a train from falling off the bridge if the train derails by catching the wheels. A guard rail is the railing that doesn't do much to keep a train from falling off a bridge since the train would smash through it, but is mainly there so that the MoW workers...

    The "Loco" Side Of Locomotion
