Have you ever seen this done?

Yes, I'm thinking it's been (or maybe still) used for storage. The building in the background is an old feed store that has long since been out of business. It's hard to tell where the original tracks may have been. There's an old depot across the street, but no tracks there either.

Have you ever seen this done?

Well...urban planning sometimes just plain doesn't make any sense. Here is a pic of a boxcar that is just sitting behind a building. You can see the bumpers, and the end of the track at bottom right. There are about 3 feet of tracks in front of this car. Basically, this thing is just sitting...

    Edaville Water tank

Looks like you've got a good start! :thumb: However, in the prototype pic, the water tank is only slightly taller than the cinder block base. Are you planning to trim the tube down a bit?

    Erie & Southern - N Scale

Yes, my layout will be on casters, so it can be moveable. See The Aluminum Benchwork Project on my website, or search for the thread on these forums. I've measured with a yardstick at waist height, and I can reach up to 3' comforably. I don't want to get in the habit of knocking down...

Thinking About Jumping To N Gauge

Yeah, I imagine an O27 layout in 3x6 would limit your options quite a bit. N is a whole different animal. You can "downsize" most HO layouts to roughly half (HO=1:87, N=1:160) but it won't be exact. If you're limited to just 3x6, there are tons of N scale trackplans to fit that size, or...

    Erie & Southern - N Scale

Most of what I *want* to run is 33' open hopper cars. I'm trying to keep things small, and most of my boxcars are of the 40' variety, though I do have a few 50's and a 60'. I want a lumber yard, so those will have to use flatcars. I'd like to run passenger trains eventually, so that may be an...

Don't laugh too hard...It's my first attempt!

Yeah, I read the fine print...nice try though! :D You've made some amazing progress this year, Steve. You're an inspiration to all us newbies. And you're right, the internet has definitely lessened the learning curve for us. I might have given up by now if it weren't for the help of the...

How Do You Guys Do It?

Time? As a single father with two small kids, time is precious. I can usually only dedicate myself to a project in 20 minute bursts, or else the house would burn down. Generally, I dedicate the time after they go to bed at 9:00pm-11:00pm as my railroad time. Money? Again...see above. Single...

    Erie & Southern - N Scale

Figured I'd better start a new thread with the new road name, so people (including myself!) don't get confused. Givens - Max layout size: 9x6x3 L shape - N scale - Transition era (1953) near the end of steam Druthers - No point to point. Would like some continuous run with some...

    Leasing and Trackage Rights

Great! Then my work here is done. :) I still want to make a few tweaks, but for the most part, that's it. I did use some actual events to tie my road into history a bit. For example, Jay Gould was approached to buy the Nickel Plate, and he was short on capital...I just threw in a reason...

My "President Polk" B&O 4-6-2 Pacific. My late grandfather gave me this engine for his layout when I was a kid. I couldn't have been more than 10 years old, and I remember that moment like it was yesterday. He had put it in the roundhouse, and the turntable lined up so that I could pull it out...
