The Tripods

Another master piece that will be revealed. I like the red one.
A masterpiece, you do humble me so... A mere passionate modeller
The base is a natural choice. To all who don't know it, this is a rendering of the mind-control plate which is implanted into the top of the head of the humans by the tripods to suppress free will and creativity.

Pure eye candy, especially the red one (pun intended; the idea of a tripod lolly is not too far fetched since it already comes on a stick - three sticks, to be exact, but the head is big enough for that, too! ).

Yes, the caps do make for a good base, the wooden one was laser etched??? by the model maker, I've had to make another as you'll see.

Tripod lolly now there's a treat

Mr Silver was first to be finished - bloody camera miss-focused onto my neighbours flat!

Closely followed by Mr Red

Really happy with this picture, in natural light they almost look real!!!

There now follows some beauty shots

A note here, a few mis-printed areas showed up on the primer and topcoats - instead of filling them, I just used some pigments to accentuate them as damage.

…and the finished items on display at my local model clubs table at IPMS Scale Model World - 10/11/2024 Norfolk Scale Model Club

The base for the silver Tripod was painted over - the base for Red was made by photocopying the other base, gluing to the sheet onto a cereal packet and cutting through - then pasting a piec of red card underneath.

A proud father, I'm inwardly smiling

These were really a fun build, quick too, as they needed to be finished within two weeks, as the deadline of heading out to the national model show was looming.

Not really having to stretch my basic modelling skills, but it was good getting my airbrush out again and having another stab at spray painting.

Painting models is always my downfall, and partly the move to card and paper models was the result of not being able to finish plastic, resin and other materialled kits.

Thanks for watching, now back to that Y-Wing!

Absolutely fabulous!!! The models look exactly like the filming miniatures. Great and stunning work!!!

:BRAVO: :BRAVO: :BRAVO: :BRAVO:

You did a FANTASTIC JOB on these projects! I am glad that you were able to get them built in time for the expo.
Thank you, it made for great impedance to get them done. I do tend to have a lot of unfinished projects, but the deadline helped me get them done.
There's still the filament one to finish, so I'll continue to add the progress of that one on here as well...

I vaguely remember that show from PBS. Nice work on these.
Thank you...It was never repeated for absolutely years on the BBC, which was unheard of in the 80's - unaware of its global release, but as the Australian and some E.U countries helped out with the cost of the production it was shown in those territories
right....whos been passing the shrinkray around again? :surprise: lol
awesome work
:toast:
Guilty! borrowed it for a week! Who knows when and where it will turn up next... and thanks by the way

Be grateful that he used the shrinkray the correct way. A life-size one would scare the heck out of everyone. Those beasts are terrifying. Which makes me wonder what would happen if they would meet the Daleks... :)
