Tree experiment

I have been experimenting this week with a number of people’s way of making trees.
I wound up with flower wire twisted and brown flower tape on the larger limbs and trunk.
The black on the trees looks glossy because of the flash, but it is really flat black.

I could not find any colored Poly-Fiber , so I tried using acrylic paint to color it but it just would not take. Next I tried India ink with 90% alcohol and here is the results. Not quite black but tented enough to act as shadows for the depth.

I got my homemade foam out and it is still clumping together because of static electricity. I bought some anti static spray and it helped some but not enough to be able to sprinkle it like you should.
I happened upon some sawdust (dark green, light green, and tan) I had colored for – I don’t know what now. Anyhow it looked good so I tried it on some instead of foam.
This sawdust is finer than regular sawdust because it came from my 4” MicroMark saw.

Of course these are not for mass production. These would be more for somewhere you could see up close.

Those look great, now the trick is to get them up to the layout and sit one there till you see how you can improve on them color wise.

Didn't use flower wire and ribbon but close enough.

There's something to be said for old materials. That sawdust gives more texture than almost all foam trees I've seen.
