So I'm getting ready to walk out the door to a doctor's appointment, but wanted to do a quick thing in Illustrator before I forgot. I turn on my computer, decide to check my email and find that my Paypal Debit Card had jumped out of my pocket, borrowed the car and driven to Raleigh, NC and decided to go on a shopping spree at a gas station to the tune of $700!

So I got to spend the majority of the day talking to Paypal, canceling credit/debit cards, closing bank accounts and gaining a massive headache.

I spoke with the gas station head office and they said the idiot was probably sitting out in the parking lot offering to pump gas for cash.

I will not use Paypal. They participated in Identity theft and if it wasn't because they messed with the wrong person, as my wife works for a very large bank, I might have gotten taken. I have never had Paypal but they allowed someone to setup a Paypal account in my name after I had ordered $20 dollars of electronics from a company OVER THE PHONE and that person sold my credit card number. That person did not not I had received that card that day and made w transactions, so it was easy to trace. Paypal did nothing to verify that a person from BRAZIL was ordering $4000 dollars worth of electronics. They never thought to maybe call the bank seeing how all of this happened in 2 hours. I did not lose a dime and a big investigation ensued. The guy who took the order was arrested, the company apologized profusely, they sell electronics to the government and military based industries. Paypal should have never allowed that card to be run up like that because it was out of the norm of your spending practices.

I do not do business with any organization that uses PayPal or runs their MasterCard through Paypal. That is killing a well know model distributor, but I don't think he, or others doing the same thing, realize. it.

is it just me or is it somewhat ironic that the advertisement that appears under the first post is for credit cards?

I see an advert for a loan company, not credit card. I think the ads vairy for each member.

I use paypal for a most of my online buying, never had any problems with it. Suppose it's different for each person. Some people have trouble with credit cards, some never have any trouble.

I do not condemn Paypal as it could happen to anyone. It just happened to happen to me.

The thing about PayPal is I know people who transfer massive amounts of funds through it, without any problems. I imagine, within a couple of years, this stuff will be a thing of the past. My brother in law buys and sells motorcycles, farm equipment, everything through PayPal, and he actually has had excellent luck with them. Likewise, he knows people who have had problems. I think one day, we will be doing fingerprint swipes, or retinal scans, and this will become harder to trick, but ultimately, it's just a data stream sent and once someone has that, the same problem arises. hat is for all businesses though, not just PayPal.

Yes this is a very serious problem and everyone should be aware of it.

I do have to say that this is a dead thread, so please, no necroposting.
