Smokestacks

Can anyone give me any suggestions for constructing smoke stacks like the ones seens in the 2nd photo on this page?

I'm building these in N scale. In person, the pipes appear to be ribbed (welded) in 10 or 12 foot sections.

Hi Frank,
I think I would look at some wood dowels or plastic tube (which would be more expensive). Then I would scribe the joints in with a xacto or razor blade. You could hollow out a small bit on one end of the dowel to give it a tubing look. Last time I was at Wal-Mart I think I saw some dowels, gotta go see if they have some black heavy thread or fishing line to use as cable, I'll have a look for some dowels and see how much they are!

large plastic straws are a good sorce of cheep tubing.

I guess it depends on the scale.

Straws are a good idea for N Scale.

For HO, go to your friendly retailer and see what he does with the plastic inserts they put in the rolls for his cash register paper, or his credit card machine.
