announce1 Does anyone know whether an SDP45 (i.e. the passenger version) has ever been produced?
I'd like one to pull my SP bilevel passenger cars in sold gray livery!
InterMountain makes a tunnel motor SD40T that is close and Kato makes the SD40 right now but of course neither are an SDP45. I found this website too that was supposed to be about stretching the SD40 to make the SDP45...http://espee.railfan.net/spsdp45-m.html
As that site notes, the SD50/60 mechanism and the SD40T-2/SD45T-2 mechanism are the right size - but they have HT-C trucks. If only Atlas actually represented all SD50s with their model... The first three orders out of Conrail's four had trade-in Flexicoil trucks, like all CR SD40-2s. A model of one of these would probably be a better starting point for an SDP45, combined witha n SD45 shell. Atlas's Conrail SD50s can only represent Conrail's last order.
Thanks Herc for the websites with the pictures (good lookin' beasts ain't they?*), and you and Triplex for the advice. Food for thought.
I have also contacted Intermountain to see if they may one day bring out this version.
If they say anything useful I'll post.
