Can any one tell the standard color of a NYC water tank circa 1940's? Thanks

Maybe grey. Check out this site:http://www.lakemirabel.com/Railroad/MaybrookYard.html

I hit it on google the first try.

You guys should google up this stufff and share with the forum rather than ask sometimes for the info.

I hope this helps you. If not try rewording your inquiry in the search engine. They dont always find you what you need but they are a starting place.

    Peace, love, dopesign1

I recall a Model Railroader cover article about an N scale module of a Hudson River line NYC scene with a tunnel (whose name eludes me right now!) that included a water tank. The tank was light grey. I imagine the MR staff did their research to make the scene as prototypical as possible. The article included prototype photos of the area as a reference for the model.
