Greetings from an "old" newbie

Hi all - I have spent many years making scale models and am now back to the hobby I left as a child - model railway.
I have bought myself the Hornby Digital GWR Pullman set to get me up and running and am on the prowl for some layout ideas.
I have lots of newbie questions which I will bore you all with in coming months.
But for now - is Xpress net a Hornby thing or is it an industry standard of sorts?

The OnTracks guide to the Hornby DCC Digital system Hornby says their system is compatible with DCC standards. Hornby DCC - Page 2 - All Model Railroading - Community Forums Xpress net is compatible with at least Lenz, not sure about other brands.
