Thanks to abutt, doctorwayne, jim currie, and CN nutbar, I have gotten a wealth of doodlebug, gas-electric, and early diesel information.

Here are the thread that started it all (I am still blaming you, doc...! ;) :D)

Read about the search for a doodlebug, which is now a discontinued item from Bachmann Spectrum. I did not find any reference, despite jim currie's assistance, to the Walthers' version....

Allan (abutt) sent me these pictures of (1) a cut down Bachmann version, and (2) a kitbashed creation that incorporates a boxcab and an oldtime combine. Pic's posted with permission.

PS - I think it's telling that my youngest (2 years old) has aquired the nickname doodlebug over the past year or so. My wife thinks it's a cute name, and I don't think she knows it's train related... shhhh!! ;)

Here are jim currie's pictures of the Walthers version of the Doodlebug. Like the Bachmann Spectrum version, it is also unavailable :(

    Thanks for the pics jim!

With Andrew's permission, I'm posting a picture of an unaltered Bachmann issue for comparison. When they first came out, they were $79.95. I picked my second edition undecorated unit up, NIB and DCC ready for $18.95 including shipping....now if I could only find a deal like that on a Marklin Big Boy...sigh:thumb:
