was wondering if there was any guides or books out there that offer great camp sites along with railfanning spots...

Good question GFR, I have done a lot of camping in the states and Canada but don't recall any that was on or close to the tracks. Except near resorts that have excursions or tour trips. Some hear, some there. It may be a hunt and pick thingy. Books? I don't know of any. But goodluck, I use to enjoy camping very much, did most of it from a motorcycle. Jim 
Mike: are you looking for rustic camps or organized camp grounds? I've found a few commercial sites that have a bit of a railway view.
Have any luck searching online? A while ago I found this site for caboose hotels near the tracks...maybe there are similar sites for campgrounds (?) http://caboosenut.com/Cab_PC_station.htm
