Bachmann 4-8-4 N Scale Question

Hello all, after growing up with my father loving model trains, I've decided to start working on a small layout myself, N Scale due to lack of space. I purchased a set with a Bachmann 4-8-4 loco (AT&SF 3780) discount from a local hobby shop. However, it seems as though the connector between the engine and the tender is broken. It is disconnected, and I can't for the life of me see a logical way for it to fit. Do I need to get a replacement part? If so, could someone that may have a similar setup post or email a photo of how it's supposed to connect. Sorry for the lame question, but I was quite a bit younger the last time I worked with these.

There are a few different versions of that locomotive.
Here is a photo of the latest version.
I have added extra pickups to the tender and ran wires along the drawbar.
If yours is one of the earlier versions, let me know, I have 2 different earlier versions I can take photos of.

One option that you have is to contact Bachmann for authorizationyand return it to them.
Bachmann has the best warranty program of any manufacture.
