I was contracted by a church to make a 1:1 scale half model of the Ark of the Covenant. It had to be light and durable because it would need to be moved from time to time (ruled out balsa) so I ended up making it out of coroplast, insulation foam board and Aves Apoxiesculpt. Oh...and a couple cans of rattle paint (and no, it's not all gold...)

That is cool that you are making this for your church.

Amazing! That is a fantastic project, the Cherubim in particular look fantastic! And, at least you didn't have to worry about the dimensions! :)

Cool. I have a half-finished Blender file of a computer model of the Tabernacle, somewhere on my computer. In Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, you can see a full-scale model of the Tabernacle with all the furnishings. It's pretty cool, though not how I would have envisioned it. Great work!

I spent some time working with the pastor trying to noodle out what it may have looked like. The chest is to scale (48" w) and the angels are subject to a lot of personal preference (only details described are "heads bowed, wings over head, made of hammered gold - as in a hammered piece of gold). Some interesting guesses out there, to be sure.
