Like a rat from a sinking ship

Seeing the turmoil, and the resignation of the only authority figures that have earned my respect, I too am moving on. It has been a good time here, but that is coming to an end. I am off to bluer skies.

    Snow on the Tracks

Having lived in Michigan, Ohio, Colorado, and Illinois I am no stranger to snow. However, it is only recently that I have come to realize the magic that is held within those tiny flakes. Regardless of the cold, they bring out the little kid in most adults, at least until the cold overrides...

    Stepping Down

I just want to echo the sentiments of the others. I am happy that you are sticking around. Thank you for all that you have done as a Mod. Matt

Bowser USRA Lt Mikado, Deluxe Kit (Lord help me)

The first few pics are in... I don't know that I will be able to start building before Monday, but here is what came in the box... Strike that... It would appear that I can not upload photos. I keep getting a database error. I will try again in a little bit.

Bowser USRA Lt Mikado, Deluxe Kit (Lord help me)

As an aside, Standard Hobby gets 2 thumbs up from me. They shipped it fast, and gave me a check, because I rounded the numbers up for shipping and handling after speaking to someone there. I sent my order via snail mail. When I called to check the status of the order they were able to look it...

Bowser USRA Lt Mikado, Deluxe Kit (Lord help me)

Well, it came today. Whomever it was who said that it was not a "Shake the box" kit was not pulling my leg. However, after looking over the instructions carefully, I can do this fairly easily. It will take some time, and I know I will run across a few hang ups. Whoever said that the valve gear...

How to strip paint from an Athearn wide vision caboose?

Full strength Pine-Sol cleaner and a toothbrush will work too. Just be careful, if it soaks too long it will damage the plastic.

Need to print my own Decals

Unless you have your heart set on making your own decals, I would check Champ, http://www.minot.com/champ/ They make some of the best decals I have ever used.

    Am I getting to old?

Happy Birthday!! I don't remember who said this to me, but here goes... "Our is the truest form of nostalgia. Longing for an era we have never known" (Or something to that effect.) It is not a matter of age. Some say that the long gone years where a simpler time. When social and family...

    Bowser Deluxe Kits?

After careful consideration, I am going to be building a bowser kit or 2. I just ordered a light mikado kit, and I am getting a light pacific kit for christmas. I will post info about the builds in a thread when I get started.

    Dan's Layout

The talent pool just got alot deeper. Your layout is incredible. You indicated that you didn't have a plan. When you were building, did you have an idea of the elements you wanted in your layout? If so, did you place those elements and let the remaining trackage evolve? I too am building...

    Bowser Deluxe Kits?

Thanks for the input. If I do go with the bowser kit, I will definately have a build thread on here. Squid, Very insightful information you added. Easy is a very relative word. I love the detail work, and when called upon I have an abundance of patience. Should I go about this, I will be...

    Bowser Deluxe Kits?

Does anyone have any experience with these? I am looking at buying a Lt. Pacific deluxe kit from Standard Hobby, but before I sink my money into it, I want to know from an uninterested third party how they are? Are they easily convertable to DCC with sound? Are they easily assembled? Are the...

    22 gauge wire

Home Depot and Menards have it, but they do not stock solid wire in this guage. Unless you don't have any issues with using stranded wire, I would try Radio Shack, or on a long shot, if you have a Circuit City nearby, try them. Since they are closing stores alot of their stuff is dirt cheap...

The light at the end of the tunnel

If a thought were to fall in an illuminated, crowded, wet, dank tunnel, would anybody hear it? The light... It is flashing... "You see that twinkle in your eye? That is your career dissapation light, and it just went into high gear" Back Draft I will join Mountain Man and will away the...

    Starting a layout

Hi, welcome to the forum. You came to the right place for answers. The wealth of knowledge available here is second to none. 1. Their are several methods for creating the benchwork. 2" foam is 1 of them. It is fairly easy to cut, but you should invest in a hot wire cutter. It...

    MMRy Progress

It is indeed, for CSX, but when it was the PM and into the C&O days, it was the Wixom sub. However, after spending time reading and contributing to the Lights Out thread in the General forum, I am missing some brain cells, and messed up when I typed that entry. It is a shame to see that line...

The light at the end of the tunnel

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: Perhaps a knew direction is called for. Maybe we should focus less on the light, and more on the tunnel. Perhaps the tunnel has now become an all encompassing void, that is being lit by the centuries of human sufferings, in-justices, tyrrany and oppression. And...

The light at the end of the tunnel

Has anyone ordered a spectral analysis of this light? I like the 6'er and the K-bar... I think if we up the stakes... Say another 6'er after the light is out?
