    HOn3

Peter, Typical narrow gauge RGS, CS etc boxcars are about "halfway" between your N scale cars and, for instance, an HO 40' to 50' boxcar visually.... FWIW, Dennis Shingletown, CA. http://www.freewebs.com/bucksowin/

Yep, I do some "multi scaling"....(0n30, HO and HOn3) FWIW, Dennis http://www.freewebs.com/bucksowin/

    Informative web site on logging

Thanks! That's an incredible photo, as good as it gets! That big double drum dwarfs the little vertical spool donkey that resides in my neck of the woods! Thanks much for the link...:thumb: Dennis http://www.freewebs.com/bucksowin/

Where have all the logging modelers gone.

You're most welcome. They're a serious bunch of RR loggers at 4L with lots of knowledge of the topic and a vast network of input. Forumwise, it's kinda like comparing the "NG&SL Gazette" with "Model Railroader" when it comes to logging if you catch my drift.... Information? You'll get it...

    Jackpot! (logging info sites)

IMO, one of THE best sources for logging info is: http://www.steaminthewoods.com FWIW, Dennis http://www.freewebs.com/bucksowin/

    Small portable sawmill info needed

Woodland Scenics used to make a tiny HO portable sawmill, small enough to fit on a flatcar! FWIW, Dennis http://www.freewebs.com/bucksowin/

Where have all the logging modelers gone.

    MDC Shay Tip Sheet

Yep, as mentioned, Jeff Johnson's book. Anyone attempting this build should get this book at the same time as they get the kit! You'll find out how to build a good runner with the stock parts (no jumping and binding) and how to build a GREAT runner with some inexpensive parts...(noteably, NWSL...

    DCC in a Bach On30 0-4-0 Porter?

Just a thought or two... DCC requires CLEAN track and wheels to perform well, so keep that part as sanitary as possible. Polishing the rail with Flitz seems to work very well.... Also, one could consider adding a little weight both for more drawbar muscle and for better contact between...

    DCC in a Bach On30 0-4-0 Porter?

Gee, my experience is so vastly different that I wonder if we're talking about the same lokie! Far from being "junk", mine has run beautifully straight from the box and can "creep" right alongside my Spectrum Shays! I have "heard" of the wipers giving trouble and requiring a different spring...

    Keystone/NWSL "Class A" Shay

Hi Paul No it's a kit from "Keystone Locomotive Works" . Same folks that make those excellent "Climax" skeleton car kits. The Shay model is non-powered, but NWSL makes a power kit to fix that! I've heard that it's a great little puller when finished...

    Keystone/NWSL "Class A" Shay

Hi all. Has anyone built or does anyone own one of these little 20 ton Shays? I'm gonna build my HOn3 kit "one of these days" and I'm just curious how well they run. Thanks

Well now ol' buddy, ol' pal, I just may be able to round one up for you! Now let's see, where is that address........... On the bench under all these Shay parts maybe?................ Dennis in Shingletown

    OSH calender

Apparently, only us "left coast" folks have "Orchard Supply Hardware" stores. Sorry to disappoint the rest of you.......

    OSH calender

Those of you with an "Orchard Supply Hardware" where you live should go grab one of their 2003 calenders. You'll get a dozen 8x10" paintings by Larry Fisher on heavy gloss paper suitable for framing and hanging in the ol' trainroom. (Or wherever) These are NICE! You're welcome, and Happy New...
