    Utility line stringing tool

Hi Jim. I tried them all, from thread, to nylon thread, to fishing line. None of them compare to EZline from berkshirejunction.com. It is elastic so that if you bump it you wont uproot your poles. It also hangs right with no kinks like nylon or fishing line. Ship makers thread is close if you...

    Utility line stringing tool

I made a “line stringing tool”. It is made from a triangular piece of plastic with adjustable tripod type legs (for uneven terrain). The bobbin is also plastic from a sewing store. The legs, eyelets, and bobbin support were bent from #14 house wire. The alligator clip was from Radio Shack and...

    Ballast spreader

I could have used a paint brush to clean off the small amount of ballast left on the ties before I took the pic, but I won't deceive anyone. It still is much better than spreading it completely by hand. Cleaning stray ballast off doesn't seem to affect the N scalers. I can't make enough of the N...

Track cleaning, Linn Westcott, and No-Ox

I know of no other more controversial subject than track cleaning. I am not posting this to convince anyone to give up a tried and true method that works for them. I am simply pointing out an easier way. This comes from my being inherently lazy, so any avid “track cleaners” can skip this post...

    Ballast spreader

I made an HO ballast spreader attachment that fits on my Track Inspection Cars. It is removable, and when it is attached, you just put some ballast between the tracks, and then push the car to spread the ballast. As you can see it spreads the ballast in a near perfect pattern, ready for gluing...

    ho bolster screw size

As an N guage guy I know nothing about HO, but I am building an HO car for a friend and need to know the screw size for the bolster. According to NMRA standard for the RP-23, the screw size is #2-56. Is this the screw size that most of you use? Think he's going to use Athearn trucks.

    DON'T clean your track!

Scratches or no scratches we are all still faced with the effects of corrosion and the formation of oxides that prevent good wheel to rail contact. I have no interest in promoting NO-OX other than to relate my excellent results with its use. Again, I HAVE NOT CLEANED MY TRACK IN 3 YEARS!

    DON'T clean your track!

Cork is great for cleaning track! It's one of the many things I've used back when I wasn't so lazy and enjoyed cleaning track. For long term trouble free and maintenance free running there is nothing like NO-OX!

    DON'T clean your track!

not sure but i think thats used on heat sinks for power transistors...i wouldnt use it on track. Silchem (one of the manufacturers) says it can be used to protect electrical things, but i'm not familiar with it.

    DON'T clean your track!

I don't clean my track. An occasional vacuuming every 3 months whether it needs it or not...lol. I have an aztec cleaning car but find that it is not needed any more. Some extra info that may keep my track in great shape: Central air to keep humidity down and a covered basement ceiling to keep...
