Hi,
after I build the Enterprise-E from Zosho's site, i decided to build also his other models. Here is a ship of the Akira-Class, the U.S.S. Thunderchild.
Its a very nice Model and just as well as the Enterprise-E. For these models I designed a custom-build stand so that you can hold the model in your hand an consider it from all sides.

Regards Loenf

Not to diminish the excellence of the ships, but the crafting of the stands is most impressive. Thanks for the exhibit of skill ! Bob C.

Great Builds loenf!
I particularly like the Akira class... "wink-wink"

I think some of the other members here will agree with me on this: I'd like to see a tutorial on your HardDrive stands... For instance: How do you get them so shiny?
And -looking at the two models in this thread- the Starfleet logo and detail image looks like they're recessed into the stand... how...?

Hi,
I used the inner Frame of the Harddrive. The Starfleet logo is really resseced into the former place of the motor, I just used the cut-outs of the chassis.
To get them shiny I used grade 1000 emery paper and water, for the stands in this thread, for other stands I used silver car paint.
The uprights are made of small slices of plexiglas. After I polished them and cut them to right length, they are glued on the stand with superglue.

regards Loenf

Wow! The Akira class has always been one of my favorites...and this is really well done. I am especially impressed with your re-purposing of the old hard drive cases. Makes me wish I had not thrown out the 2 dead hard drives I had sitting in a box for years.
