The Lines of the Twin Ports without a doubt. Now this includes a variety, but what a variety!!
Mainline Haulers-GN,NP,SOO,CN,Milw,CNW,UP,CB&Q,BN,BNSF
Ore Haulers-DM&IR,GN,NP,SOO,BNSF
Bridgelines-DM&IR, DW&P
Shortline-D&NE
Now as an example,The Main freight haulers to the area were the Great Northern and the Northern Pacific. However to give you an idea of the amount of rail traffic the twin ports had in the sixties,
The SOO ran 9 locals every day 7 days a week in the Duluth-Superior area. And they werent hauling 1/10th the freight of the other 2.That is alot of traffic.
And How can you beat the sheer dominating structure of an Ore Dock??
Granted we will all have a favorite for 1 reason or another.Mine is of course based on the fact i grew up a stones throw from the original DM&IR roundhouse(the one built in the late 1800'snot the new one built in the 20's)and while they werent in mainline service anymore, watching an M-class Steamer steaming ore in the yard was a sight to awe any youngun.
