What do you do?

Well I did computers for years, finishing up with an international software company throughout Asia/Pacific. Lots of sitting in jumbo jets.

Got the "I don't wanna do this any more" syndrome, moved up the bush, (from inner Sydney) and opened an internet cafe and event ticketing business instead.

I've now got room for a decent layout. :):) TOOT!! :thumb:

Interesting post.

Right now, I'm a captain at a regional airline, based out of O'Hare. Love my job, but the industry is quickly falling apart. Too bad there aren't too many model railroad jobs out there... :)

Scott, there is an opening for a dispatcher on my layout, however you only get paid in plastic dollars....

I noticed we have some truckers on here, hey guys, glad I don't have to deal with morons in yugo's anymore... :)

A friend of mine is an AA pilot, and also flies FA/18s in the Marine Reserves. He says the same about the airline industry and wants to fine another line of work.
 
I'll start with the ex's first.

ex marine -4 years in Viet Nam

ex cop - city of Grand Rapids,Mich.

ex fire fighter -city of Grand Rapids ,Mich.

Currently (like the last 20 0f the 27 years I've worked for this company) CNC operator,I co-run five machines and we are buying more,Fire fighter trainer(volinteer fire departments) and my most favorite job of being Mikey's biggest agravator. :D
 
I work as a Millwork Specialist (doors and windows) for a new Lowes in North East Pittsburgh, PA. I have worked in Kitchen Design and Milwork with Home Depot for a couple years. Before that worked in the Computer industry with a coupany who built and maintained credit card / embossing equipement. I have an Associates in Computer Science from PTI.

PS. 24 years old.

year or so as a millwright in a power plant


15 years underground coal miner(best job ever):) in 1993 mine closed been a heavy equipment mechanic since moved to Arizona in 2000.
 
Let's see, I grew up in the General construction field (residential) and I did that for roughly 15 years. I know currently work at a spark plug factory.....in the machining department.:D
 
Don't know how I missed this thread until now, but...

I am currently retired from various and sundry retail electronics ventures: First two-way radio, then that expanded into all sorts of consumer electronics, as well as professional audio and video. Then I sold that business in two different pieces. Was then in the security alarm business for a while; but got tired of commuting three or more days a week 50-60 miles one way, so sold that, too. All this time, my wife and I have been raising Clydesdale Draft Horses, and that continues. In retirement, I'm into all sorts of things, mainly railroads (NE RVP NRHS), on the Board of our local Regional Theatre, and dabble occasionally in aviation and other things, too. Before electronics, I was in the USAF straight out of college for four years, most of it underground, in a missile site.
 
I work with adults with developmental disabilities (mental retardation, autism, etc.) in a vocational training center. We place folks in community jobs but also have a factory style workshop on site for clients who aren't ready for that. I'm the "behavior analyst" so its my job to work with clients who exhibit the more challenging issues. It usually involves finding some way of helping them get their needs met in ways other than hitting themselves, each other, or me! Interestingly enough, a lot of my cleints respond to images of trains. I found a web site that lets me download video clips of passing trains that's been a lot of fun and very helpful as a reward activity.
