Unitah Dave, what an interesting layout! Please post progress often, your layout intrests me alot, and I look forward to seeing more!
Thanks Miles. It's my first try so we'll see how it turns out. The basic benchwork is actually an old single size bed frame with 2" foam on top. I will never use 18" curves again though. Too tight for my tunnel motors.
As a note... If you've ever considered modelling the Uintah in Nn3; Republic Locomotive Works is currently prototyping a kit for the Uintah mallets. The kit will be 'based' (mostly visually) on #50. It will only be available with the original side tanks, as they hide the Marklin mechanism. So far, they have a boiler, cab(etched I believe), and tender ready for the first castings. (Test castings) SVRY and URY fans have good things coming our way.:thumb:

That's one strange combination.
I will explain.

I'm still confused. Do you mean Utah Railway? They run Rio Grande and UP T2s (SD40-2Ts) some times, but don't actually own any. As for the D&RGW T2s, I love seeing them on Utah Railway iron. -Especially when they had the 5 loco D&RGW T2 helper unit based in Martin, UT.
Uintah Railway shut down in 1939, and had no tunnels. Are you using an artistic license to model the URY at a future time? Sorry, just trying for some clarity.
Glad to see another Uintah Railway/Utah Railway fan, either way.
OK I know this has been here for a while but I am still catching up with the guage. The railing on athern locos are a pain, the way I do it is to start them into the hole heat the stantion with a soldering gun on high useing pressure applied with gun to carefully push it in, the melted plstic will hold it in place. Be carefull to not touch the plastic with the hot tip as it is very unforgiving. After four hours, I finally got the handrails on my GP50. Why couldn't Athearn make these metal monsters so that they would actually fit as intended. I assembled the railing as I went along and had to drill out each and every hole, a pretty good trick when you don't have a pin vise.
