This is the only car I have that has anything to do with Canada.

CNWman, SD40-2's modern power?....as opposed to what? they have been around since the 70's:winki: . the SD70's are what is being called the NEW SD40-2's:winki: . the SD40-2's were BAR NONE the most reliable all around best diesel engines made:winki::mrgreen: , MANY are still used on class A roads, and even more are used on short lines today:thumb: . though for TODAYS needs, the SD70's are just as reliable, and more suited for here and now on class A roads:thumb: .

you mentioned getting a Rio Grande engine:thumb: , the Rio Grande paint scheme with the LARGE "speed letters" is one of the best paint schemes i have ever seen:winki::mrgreen: .

i seen you have acquired a BL2:thumb: (VERY COOL engines:winki: ), i always really liked them(sharks too:mrgreen: ), my problem is i don't model any of the roads that have them:frowns: , and I'm kinda a stickler for prototypesops: so i just cant find it in me to paint the brand new BL2(and shark) i have in UP colors...so mine are still just sitting in their boxesops: . :deano: -Deano

Thanks for the comment on my BL2:mrgreen: I personaly think I can get away with a BL2 mainly because for me, prototype takes a back seat to engine colecting plus it was $10 AND a P2K (although it has a B/W sketch of WM #81 on the front, not like your box) For the SD40-2, I have chosen to do a patched one (that way I can get away with it). However, I have all 18" curves, and I don't know how 6 axel units behave on those. For why an SD40-2, it's just that they're a classic engine, and I must say that your Rio Grande patch unit is awfully nice:mrgreen:, plus they're cheaper than model SD70's, so I'm kinda on a budget (the ONE exception to this rule is UP 1995, the CNW heritige unit, fo obvious reasons).
Now for your BL2. First off Deano, that engine's probably a great runner:thumb: mainly because it's newer than my engine (which I might add, has at least 6 years ahead of me!). Plus for prototype, I found a way that you might be able to exploit. The Chicago & Eastern Illinois RR aquired BL2's 1600-1601 and later 1602. The C&EI was divided between the L&N and MoPac RR's, and MoPac was later meged into the UP. Now let's say that one of those BL2's survived through the MP to the merger, and then was left to be a rust collector awaiting scraping. Then your man Big Ed finds it, and gets it cheap off of the scraping yard. He then restores it to C&EI colors and running capacity, and there you have your BL2. I think I've gotten good at making plausible stories throughout my collecting of old engines

Great pictures, thank you all for posting :thumb:. I’d like to contribute to this thread, but even if some of you say they don’t get tired of seeing the same old scenes from my layout, I am tired of taking nearly the same pictures all the time ops:.

Here is the proof that I am working on my layout to get some new scenes. I did this sidewalk today and I am working on this little structure to fill the last gap on the left side of my layout. The prototype of this house is standing somewhere in Florence, CA.

Was out walking the dog Sunday morning, when I heard the familar sound of CNE's C44-9W coming into town. Running down a side street, I was able to catch the nose coming from behind an old coal dealer.

CNWman, i was thinking about doing the BL2 in C&EI paint, even joined their news group to get pics, but decided against it:frowns: (though i thought your story would have worked good:winki: ), i am thinking perhaps I'll do it in demonstrator paint:winki: . **My Rio Grande is an SD50, i couldn't find one with the large speed letters in an SD40-2:cry: , if you find one, let me know who makes it, i haven't seen one:frowns: .

The FIRST train show of the season is THIS WEEKEND in my area:mrgreen: , knowing the Rock Valley Sub is ALWAYS looking for more power:119: , i would like to get something:winki: .

i have 2 SP units, 1 Rio Grande, and 1 CNW, all are patched for UP:winki: , i am thinking about doing another patched engine but cant decide weather to go with another Rio Grande, or a CNW ....ANY THOUGHTS? :deano: -Deano

Deano, good idea to have another patched engine. Your Rio Grande unit is my favorite though I like all your patched engines. I only see one problem: what will you be doing if you find all the engines you listed at the show? Big Ed would be delighted to get them all :mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:.
