Amtrak pulling out onto the mainline
A Phase IV P42 with a string of Superliners slowly starts out on today's Carolinian run. Although the Superliners are not normally used, they were out of position from an excursion trip and left in the Charlotte area and will be re-routed to Chicago after the arrival in the D.C. area. The P42 is one of the last Phase IV units that needs repainted to the Phase V coloring. Every once in a while, an older Phase III unit can still be found pulling the Carolinian as extra power to the newer Phase V units.

Well thats where im at right now with it. Just waiting for the plaster cloth to dry so I can paint it and then get started with the scenery on that side.

Deano, I really like the way you build the roads on your layout. Do you have any link on that subject ( or better, any tutorial ) ?
Biased turkey, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the complement:smilie: . yes, i posted how i do my roads in one of these weekly photo fun threads:winki: , but searching for it i realized it would be quicker to just repost how i do it:119: .
First i want to mention, some of the forum GREATS on here do MUCH BETTER roads then I
ops: , take a look at Wayne's(doctorwayne) and Kurt's(cnw1961) roads for example...WOW!!!:eeki::thumb: , there are others too:thumb: , but Wayne and Kurt were the first two that came to mind:winki: . i know Kurt has a tutorial on here somewhere on his roads, and i am sure Wayne probably does too:winki: . As for my roads, they are really quite simple
ops::119: . i use styrene for the road, and paint it primer gray. at any auto parts store you can find white or yellow pin striping, thats what i use for the lines on the road:winki: . 1/16th for the lines, and 1/8th for stops, crosswalks, etc.i use a mixture of Polly Scale "engine black" mixed with 70% strength isopropyl alcohol, about 1 tbl spoon paint to a pint of the alcohol, you might want to make it stronger or weaker to weather the roads. i "dry brush" the paint/alcohol mixture on the road where the tire tracks would be. be sure and put a light coat of the mixture over the whole road, and don't be afraid to leave some drips here and there to simulate oil spills:winki: . i also used a VERY FINE TIP black marker to draw in cracks in the road here and there:winki: . THATS IT!:mrgreen:

I'm surprised when you mention that you are just using painted styrene, because the result looks ( at least on the picture lol ) as good as if it was made using dry wall or spackling compound ( I think that's what DoctorWayne and CNW1961 are using ).

Great pics this week, guys :thumb:. Sorry, no photo from me :cry:, I ran out of ideas ops: for pictures and I am too busy building my catalog house at the moment.
Biased turkey, don’t believe Deano when he says that my roads look better than his, he is just too humble as usual :mrgreen:. I don’t use dry wall or spackling compound, I like it quick, clean and easy just like Deano. I use 320 grit waterproof sanding paper to build my roads and paint it with thin acrylic paints. I haven’t done a tutorial yet (sorry Josh :neutral:, completely forgot about that), but here are two posts where I explain how I do it: http://forum.zealot.com/t111350-2/#post360779 , http://forum.zealot.com/t117064/#post428313 .

Kurt: That looks fantastic...well done , and thanks for telling your secret for great looking roads.
I don't think that I've done anything on roads either, as none of mine have been weathered. Here's a link to some level crossings, about the closest thing to roads that I could find, although these haven't been weathered either.
