Thought I'd join in the fun this week with my newest HO toys.I can't take the credit for these beauties but my Mastercard can.

CSX RDMT 2248 and her mothership CSX GP40-2 6388 haulin the freight on GVR trackage.

A couple of "Cadillacs" . I hadn't heard that expression until you used it Gus. Does that mean the SD9 was considered a pretty good loco to run or was that a sarcastic nickname?

The SP (where the nickname originated) certainly liked their SD9s.

I'm having great difficulty keeping track what images I've posted where, so if the one below has already appeared on this forum previously, please forgive me.

I don't think we've seen this one before, either. It's not often I see a Camelback photographed from behind.

Great pictures all - my compliments to each of you! Each one of them is really nicely done! I always learn so much from looking at this one thread with everyone's pictures...so many great ideas, so many great shots of well done modeling.


cnw - please tell me you're not modeling that in nscale, 'cause you've got some seriously great attention to detail going on in those photo's...like the cardboard box (with a puppy or cat in it?) and newspaper laying about...that it really impressive.

Yup, Athearn RTR, BNSF New Image (aka Swoosh, H3, Powerbar). Its actually my first New Image unit. I was pretty much jumping for joy when I discovered I won the action for it. Only my 4th RTR unit too.

Sure is although its hard to tell with the washed out color in the pic. I have only one loco with the orange C but I like it for variety...which seemed to be a watchword on the PC!

Herc, relax :mrgreen:. I am modeling in HO. I don’t know if I could do those cardboard boxes in n, even in HO they were a challenge. BTW, it’s a cat and thank you for your kind comment.

Ralph, that’s a real nice structure. Where do you get the information you need to build your industrial structures? Do you just take some pics and build them according to the pics or do you have any further information?

I haven't made attempts to model any structure exactly like its prototype inspiration due to size considerations and other factors. I usually just take some photos and wing it from there. The prototype of this industry is actually quite large so I needed to do some "selective compression".

This thread is getting to be my most favorite spot on the Gauge.It is always full of awesome pictures chock full of neat ideas that can be used in almost any scale.

I have to admit though that I'm beginning to think that Deano owns more locos than Uncle Pete,but then again they do take a nice picture. :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

chessie4155- Niceness, I love the pictures of your Chessie trains! I always enjoy watching those movies. You'll have to tell me how you get the sound in them!

Trainnut- Becareful, approaching trains move faster then they appear! sign1

Nazgul-I love the rock faces. That is somewhere i'd love to sit and watch trains if it were real... of course, its hard to tell the difference in your picture.


Smoke- thats Brilliant! that paint scheme looks good on there... UP should have used GEVOs instead of the SD70ACe in their hertiage schemes.

Ralph- the cadillac name was serious. It was reportedly a smooth runner that was comfortable to ride in, as opposed to other locomotives that bumped and rocked you all over.

UP SD40-2- Brilliance as usual, lol. Everything seems to be done just right on that Sd50.

jbaakko- Gotta love the swosh schemes!

CNJ999- that backdrop looks like it goes forever. that is an awesome layout you have there.

CN Nutbar- Thats an awesome scene. I have to ask though, what is that horizontal tank on the smoke box? my Lionel 4-4-2 had one, and i was always wondering what that was.

Catt-I saw those exact units in Washington DC a long time ago!:mrgreen: they were so cool, I didn't expect to see them! the rustyness is captured well, lol.

Since i'm going camping tommorow, I will not be able to participate until next week's phot fun thread, so here are my parting shots-

NJ transit E60CH #958 is coming along. I decaled one end and one side (although i need an additional decal to finish the stripes on this monster locomotive) so it could look good before i go. I still need to add the kit's various details, such as grab irons, pantographs, and electrical gear. Proto power west parts are on the way to power these giants.

E60CH #958 silently pulls into the station, its behemoth size not phasing the commuters who are used to the slightly shorter U34CHs.

I've decided to make the other E60 Amtrak E60MA #610. As such, i've begun to fill in the numberboards, headlights, and other details which are removed on the E60MAs used by Amtrak until 2003. I still need to do maybe alittle more filling and sanding to get those black specks out, but next week i'll be able to better work on that. I learned the trick is to let the modelers puddy set, no matter how horrifyingly caked on it is, as you can always get it off in the end. By next week, all the decals and parts should be, so they should be pulling trains in no time.

Finally!!

Well I managed to get a full loop of track finished around the room. I wired the swing gate to the main part of the layout and hooked up the Zephyr & UR91. It sure feels good to get those trains going again. :band1:

Deano's IRM Diesel-EXTRAVAGANZA!!!

Every year Dad and i take a trip to the Illinois Railway Museum:thumb: , well this weekend is "Diesel Days" there, so of coarse we decided to go TODAY!:mrgreen:

To be quite honest, i was a little saddened for a bit:frowns: . i told you folks i was going to bring the museum to YOU with my pics, well it was an overcast day, NOT GOOD for pics, and a lot of the REALLY COOL engines was in barns where you could see them, and touch them but had NO CHANCE to take pics of them since they are all just about on top of each other:frowns: (little Joe's, HUGE Northerns, Mallets, 2-10-2's etc:winki: ), and then the DD40AX was taken out of the "Pass and review":frowns: , i read the UP gas turbine was finished being painted, but it was only half done, and a few other things got to me. i go EVERY YEAR, so i expected some of those things, but still i was hoping different this year.

Then, as i was checking out the FANTASTIC ENGINES that were running about the place it dawned on me:eeki: , its NOT raining, and i better realize just how lucky i REALLY AM:winki: , after all, HOW MANY OF US really know what a RUNNING FM, RS, GP7, SD9, E5, E9, F7, F9, AND MANY MORE really sound, and smell like? HOW MANY OF US have actually touched them or climbed on them? HOW MANY OF US have been inside cabooses, or Burlington Zephyr and UP streamliner passenger cars? HOW MANY OF US have climbed in the cabs of HUGE steamers, or looked inside the window of a GG1 and KNOW what the cab is like? i have MANY MORE "HOW MANY OF US" things that i can HONESTLY say " I HAVE, AND I KNOW":thumb: to, but I'll spare you folks:119: , you get my point:winki: . after i had this revaluation, i considered myself QUITE LUCKY:mrgreen: , and had a FANTASTIC DAY!:thumb:

ANYWAYS...ops: ...I DID manage to get SOME halfway decent shots:thumb: . i am going to post MORE SHOTS in MY gallery under the folder marked "Railfan Pics":thumb: , but it wont be till mid week, sorry folks, but i am so darn busy with real life, work, and projects HERE and at home, i just wont get to post them in there till then:winki: .

In the 1920s, the Erie Northshore and the Grand Valley began a joint operation to move coal to a power plant in Mount Forest. For their share of the haul, Erie Northshore used copies of USRA Light Mikados, like the one pictured below.

These soldiered on through the '30s and '40s, joined in the early '50s by MLW FAs, from new parent EG&E.

By the Early '60s, the Mikes had been retired, leaving the task to various FA/FB combinations.

Eventually, the MLWs were supplanted by these big U-boats, from GE:

Last year, a date was set for closure of the outdated power plant. Rumours abound that the big GEs, specially purchased for this service, will be sent to an undisclosed road for testing. If the tests prove successful, a long-term lease may be in the offing. Here's one of the units on the Lowbanks turntable.

Dean, what a fantastic array of locomotives! The Silver E unit is one of the most beuatiful machines ever made! I like that Illinois Terminal scheme and I'll have to read up onthe MN Transfer RR. Good to see you there!
