So I've mentioned in my recent post that I've been on hiatus. While I took time learning to fold and glue better I taught myself how to use Blender.

I found a post somewhere talking about making your own designs by modeling in Blender then exporting to Pepakura. So that's what I did.

The very first models I made (that is folding and gluing) are from Elite Dangerous were the Sidewinder and the Cobra MkIII, I tried to find model from the game but could never find any other designs anywhere, so I chose to make my own.

I chose the Viper MkII:

"The Viper Mk III is a small ship produced by Faulcon DeLacy. An affordable, light fighter craft with a distinctive, minimal profile that was designed for agile ship-to-ship combat, the Viper Mk III is a favorite of security forces and bounty hunters across the galaxy. Newly-licensed pilots who desire to specialize in combat often make purchasing a Viper Mk III an early priority." https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Viper_Mk_III

I found a resource to take orthographic images of a 3D model of the ship. I found looking on Thingiverse and taking screenshots while using Blenderis great .
I used the photos as a reference to model in Blender and I came up with this:

Then I needed to put textures/images on my model so I learnt how to do UV mapping. I have Elite Dangerous the game so using the in-game photo-mode I took, orthographic photos of my Viper and then made a UV map. Then mapped all the faces of my model to the corresponding images on my created map, and made this:

From there is was easy to import the modeling in Pepakura:

There is some geometry I'm not happy with but all in all I can say I'm happy with my process. I still need to print it out and see if it is a success and if there needs to be any alterations but I am at least happy enough to post it here to you all.

Thanks for being on this journey with me.

It looks like you are off to a great start with this project. I am looking forward to seeing how this project turns out.

If I may make a suggestion; instead of using pepakura, you might want to take a look at Sketchup (especially Sketchup 8, which you can find the free download here: http://www.oldversion.com/windows/google-sketchup-8-0-16846)
I would also suggest reaching out to @Revell-Fan. He is our resident "SKETCHUP" master.
